P1273 Code - Ran all the normal tests

Starting a new thread as not to be confused with my HPOP saga.

So I got an IDM code and then after running AE buzz test got a P1273 (#3 cylinder high low open).

Ohm'd out the 42 Pin - got 3 across the board. Only test 42 pin from valve cover to injectors.
Double checked UVHC
Swapped solenionds
Swapped injectors
Did ford wiggle test.

Ran Injector buzz between all those steps and still get P1273.

What's the next step? Ohm from IDM to 42pin? May actually be a bad IDM?

Thanks all!

Well, removed and reinstalled the solenoid again and did another look over all the harness and didn't see anything again, so i just taped some areas up that were exposed and now the code is gone.

Moved the harness around a bunch more times in various ways and ran the buzz test and nothing.

So moral of the story, sometimes you just gotta cross your fingers and hope it doesn't come back.

Are any of the wires coming from the 42 pin connector to the IDM rubbing on the valve cover?

white Buffalo 06-22-2017 10:37 PM

Here is a link to the 42 pin connector breakdown

They was about 2" of exposed wires there but they all visually checked out cause i really looked at that part. I wrapped in a generous amount of elec tape.

white Buffalo 06-22-2017 10:39 PM

Exposed as in insulation had rubbed off and the wires could have been grounding on the VC?

6_Myles 06-22-2017 10:44 PM

Exposed as not in wire loom. Insulation appeared to all check out

What solenoid did you swap out?

6_Myles 06-23-2017 05:11 AM

#1 injector and #3 injector, and the code didn't follow the solenoid

ok, I don't really think your symptoms are pointing at a IDM failure yet. If you had any IDM codes you should see a P1316.

From the 7.3L quick reference guide:

P1316 - "IDM Codes Detected" (7.3L)

IDM Codes are stored in memory in the IDM itself. The P1316 DTC is an indication
that there are stored IDM Codes that need to be retrieved and/or cleared. Executing a
"Clear Codes" will clear both PCM and IDM codes...DO NOT CLEAR CODES until you
have retrieved and reviewed the codes stored in the IDM.
Note: IDM Codes are stored in memory. If you have a code
indicating a fault, but there is no drivability problem, the fault may not
currently exist. After taking note of the codes, execute a "Clear Codes".
At this time you should be able to re-run the above tests with no IDM
codes generated. If one or more IDM codes are still present after the
"Clear Codes" command has been successfully executed and the
above tests performed again, the fault still exists and further
examination is necessary.

Check out Post #6 here by Mueckster. It explains what wires you need to test fro the 1273 High _ Low open fault.

If the idm is unplugged will yhe codes clear?

Hmmm, that is a good question. I'm not sure. But I would guess that they would be stored until they are cleared. But I do not know. Sorry.....

I would like to hear what you find with your long start, I'm chasing one and can't seem to get it.
