No power steering
 

I installed a new steering box today. I let the old fluid drain while I returned the core. Refilled did the bleed, turned the wheel about 100 times lock to lock and still have no power steering. It was fine before the swap except for the play. Now there is no steering noise at all. Wheels off the ground reved to 1500-2000 rpm I have power, as soon as I let off the gas, I can barely turn. When I hit the stop either way it's just a clunk, not the whine normally heard.

I also pulled vacuum 25 in/lbs. Did this 4 times, nothing.
What is going on?
2002 excursion 4x4 v10.

999 times out of a 1000 the culprit is air in the system.

You did use the recommended Ford ATF for PS fluid right?

I know of a guy that didn't and it cost him $ and aggravation.

Since you say you pulled 25 in/lbs of vacuum I an guessing you do not have a hyroboost set up?

As stated air in the system is one possibility.

Also a weak pump.

I just did the same repair over the holiday weekend for a 2000 v10. Double check that you returned all the lines to the proper spots, did you do the bleed with the wheels off the ground? Did you reconnect the drag link to the pitman arm? Check your serpentine belt placement, make sure it is driving the pulley on the power steering pump. If you have double checked everything and still pull 25 on the vacuum hand pump through the reservoir then look at possible power steering pump problems.
