Welcome to FTE! Lots of good people here, and often willing to help!

That's a sweet-looking truck ya got there! Your starting point is something most of us would be very happy to end up with!

Keep up the good work, and we do love pictures!

MrQuick 05-29-2017 12:53 PM

Thank you for the welcome. The frame was sand blasted and sealed then torn apart and painted with eastwoods extreme chassis satin black. Waiting for parts stinks.

MrQuick 05-29-2017 12:56 PM

This site certainly does have a wealth of information. Just by lurking around the last month or so I can also see the members are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

FuzzFace2 05-29-2017 04:51 PM

Welcome to FTE
I did not go that deep into my 81 F100 rebuild with blasting the frame, more of clean everything, paint and replace only what needs to as this is a budget rebuild.
I did remove the cab from the frame.
Dave ----

MrQuick 05-29-2017 05:07 PM

Thank you for the welcome. I'm just getting started on this build. But with the amount of info here at FTE I'm sure it will come together fairly smooth.:-X04

this is as far as I've gotten as of to date.

FuzzFace2 05-29-2017 06:23 PM

Looking good.
How long has it been from buying to this point?

It's been a year and a half for me to get the chassis rolling again, motor/trany in it, cab on frame and just the cab less hood almost ready for paint.
Have not even started any thing on the bed yet.

I could use that fan you have. I do not work on the truck when too hot like this long weekend (and last summer) and small box fans don't cut it.

I have 6 of the plastic horses, used some of them to hold the cab up when replacing floors, rockers, cab corners & rear door posts.
Also to hold frame up for cleaning & painting.

Sweet! Looks great so far.

MrQuick 05-29-2017 07:47 PM

It's been about 4 weeks to this point, but i know now it will slow down tremendously
($$$).lol.

looking good man, gonna be sweet when its done.

FuzzFace2 06-01-2017 05:54 PM

That's not bad for 4 weeks.

I would have had a lot more done but I get a little lazy when it gets hot out. Just had a nice 3 day long weekend and did not touch it.......too hot!
My work hours don't help any also, got to get up at 2am and if lucky home by 4pm.

Also I am at the "paint" point so the weather has to be some what good to do any painting.
Would love to get the inside of the cab & door jambs, inside of the fenders and under hood painted so I can get them back on the truck.
It will look a lot better with the cab together and I can do the next step in painting the outside.

With the inside painted I can mount the dash frame & wiring getting it out of the parts truck and I can get what's left of the parts truck out of the garage for more room. With room I can work on the bed.
Dave ----

MrQuick 06-01-2017 08:00 PM

Sounds like you have a good plan. I'll be happy when I get to the "paint point". I feel your pain on the need for more space, I've got my shop full and half of the wifes garage:-blah.
Anywho I did make some progress got the rearend back in with djm drop hangers and shackles. Finally got my spindles back from machine shop ( had king pin bushings reamed). And have just started putting it back together. Pics coming.

My thought, exactly.

MrQuick 06-03-2017 12:55 PM

Thank you for the kind words. I think. This truck belonged to my late mother in law she used to love to drive it around and race the motor fir everyone to here, what is so amusing is that descriptionn of her sounds like some old hick from way back in the woods. In fact she was a very petite lady and a very classy lady who we all miss.
This truck was in very good shape body wise, as for mechanical not so much as it sat in her garage for 11 years. I hope to do it justice so I can take my wife and her sister for ride and hopefully bring back some fond memories.

MrQuick 06-06-2017 10:46 AM

Can any of you guys tell me what this brace is for?https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0e2128a3e8.jpg

MrQuick 06-06-2017 10:47 AM

anybody???

jaleus 06-09-2017 06:47 AM

I'm always curious about questions on similar models to mine so I went and looked at what I had.

Can't tell you a thing about that crossmember because my '74/f100 short bed/302/c4/single tank aft the rear axle does not have that piece. Nothing between the crossmember that supports the rear of the cab and the crossmember that supports the tail of the transmission. Looking at mine anything right there would need to sit pretty high to mis the driveshaft.

Can't tell you what the cross member is, neither of my 77 SWB 4X4 F150's have that piece. But, I do want to say you have a very nice truck and can't wait to see it when it's done! -Ed

Just found this thread. I have the exact same 1974 2wd swb Ranger XLT in red. Got it my senior year in high school 1985. Still runs but needs love. It has the typical rust over the wheel wells. Looks like your interior isn't original but a real beauty you have there. I have a 460 hence dual tanks and will look if I have that crossmember you are asking about.

thank you for the kind words. I'll bet that 460 really hauled *** back in the day, I'llbe waiting a reply on the crossmember.

Sorry for the slow response. If I'm not mistaken after looking at mine that is the upper auxillary gas tank strap since it looks just like mine so you could discard it if you wanted to but I wouldn't at this point. Yes the 460 did haul a** in the day. Hope to do what you're doing to mine someday but with one boy off to college and another right behind it will be awhile. That color red is called candy apple red. Are you going to keep it that?

probably not gonna keep the red. Although that is not completely out of the question.
thank you for taking the time to look at yours. I was planning on installing E-Stop electricparking brake and im afraid that crossmember will be in the way.

continuing my build and I ordered brake lines from LMC, which turned out to come from inline tubing . I'm really confused as to the differential/proportioning/meter valve and the distribution block. can anyone recommend a master cylinder with the correct valve on it and also the distribution block that bolts on to the frame.

I have searched FTE for two hours with no luck I can only get the search function to search for words only, not brake distribution or chrome brake booster . Google is no help either everything pulls up to 72 model pickup.
I'm sure could use some help.

JessyJ 11-13-2017 08:07 AM

Excellent work there, that dash bezel looks awesome. I will be changing the whole front panel of my bed this winter because someone had something heavy in the bed and kinked it badly in 3 spots.Keep up with the updates. Thanks.

FuzzFace2 11-13-2017 09:17 AM

Nice work.
Sorry I cant help on the brake question. May want to start a post for just that question as people may not look in here and see it.

You will love the Cal trac bars. I have a set on my drag car and work great, little adjustment makes a big difference.
Thing is will you have enough adjustment to put that top bar on the top of the spring? I see you have a lot of space before the bar sits on the spring and why I ask.
When the rear rotates it pushes the bar forward and in turn pushes the triangle plate forward that then pushes that top bar into the top of the spring.

I have also been working on my bed but is a little different setup than yours.
I have a flare side but using a style side floor in place of the wood.
I also need to replace that lower part of that front panel.
http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...028_134033.jpg
Is the a patch for the lower part or a full front panel cut down to what you needed to replace?
Dave ----

MrQuick 11-13-2017 07:47 PM

It is a full panel cut down. I was afraid of taking the whole thing apart, and the rest of panel is fine. The replacement panel is really thin compared to the original. Thanks for the input on the caltracs. They are adjusted all the way back at the moment I'm waiting to get the truck completely together before I adjust them.. fingers crossed.
