I am buying a big window short bed truck was told that there was only 17 made of this model can anyone verify this and also info on the vin number how to read what the different numbers stand for thanks.

Whoever told you this BS hasn't a clue.

However, since FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the info for these trucks decades ago, there is no info available on how many were assembled.

The 11 digit VIN only decodes to the series, engine, assembly plant and year.

I am not anyone to quote but I have yet to see a '63 with a large rear window. NOW, that doesn't mean that Ford didn't make any. I just haven't ever seen any.
I'm 53 and I have been into these trucks since I was 6 years old. My grandfather owned a '64 F250 that he sat me on his lap and let me steer while he drove. He gave me the truck when I was 12 and I put it to work hauling wood, with my mother or some one that was of driving age at the wheel. I have an extra shop manual, that will tell you everything you want to know about your VIN.

1961/63 F100/250 Uni Custom Cabs were available with the big back window.

There have been several pictured here on FTE and I've seen dozens more over the years, some of them were brand new.

I'm 72, was a Ford parts guy for 35 years (1962/97) here in LA LA Land and during 1962/64 and a bit of 1965, worked for the 2nd largest Ford dealer in the world.

When I was 6, did this same lap sitting jazz, sitting on my grandfathers lap while he drove his 1950 Olds 98 ragtop (he was an Olds dealer).

When I was 7, didn't need to sit in anyone's lap, because I learned to drive on a 1947 Chisler with Clunk-O-Matic.

Thanks for the info, like I said I'm just a guy that love these trucks but it is nice to learn something new. Of all the '63's I have seen today is the first time to see a '63 large window truck. I too worked at a Ford dealer from '86 to '02, sometimes I wish that I was born earlier.

I wish that my truck was finished. I have that same truck but a '62. Mine sits in the garage in green zinc. What is that color green called? My truck is suppose to be white and tan but I am thinking about tan and green instead. My daughter loves green and she will end up with the truck eventually.

When I was looking for a truck to restore, I really wanted a BBW, but couldn’t find what I was looking for with going hours away. I settled for just a regular 62 Uni but still would love to own one. I’ve often wondered if those big windowed trucks had any leakage problems.

I'm not sure of the name as I bought it painted but I think it might be a factory color as that was what I was told, which really doesn't mean anything cause I was told some other things that aren't true.

I couldn't say as it doesn't go out in the rain, not that it rains very often in NM.

When I had my trucks body on the rotisserie I found all kind of places for the rain to come in and I am sure that it did. I plugged up holes at the top of both A-pillars, a large hole at the upper B-pillar at the seam on the right side, inside of the left cowl where the fender meets it, the panel inside that separated the cowl from the drivers kick panel vent was not properly installed and was bent over and that left a hole large enough to insert my hand into ( that was real fun to fix). Not to mention if you didn't keep up with the sealer on the drip edge that goes all the way around the top of the windshield you will have massive amounts of rust and wonder where all of the water is coming from when it rains. NOW, all of the holes that I found in my truck cab were there from poor build quality, not rust! A service manual will be a mans best friend to keep one of these truck dry and rust free. There is a section on where and how all of the body seams should be sealed. Heck, on my Grandfathers '64 F250 that he gave me, he cut holes in the rear cab corners to keep the water flowing, otherwise he would have puddles and streams running from behind the gas tank. What I did (good, bad , indifferent) I welded all of the body seam that I could, I just hope that I never have to replace any body panels in the future. If so it is going to be a @#$%&. I also installed an X in the frame top and bottom of the frame rails anchored at all of the spring mounting points to minimize chassis flex.

I own 2 short bed BW trucks here in Oklahoma so only 9 left besides mine?
I need to call my insurance company and increase the value of mine today!!!
I have seen a few dozen over the years and a lot of long bed big windows which are pretty ugly!

I saw one on craigslist in Louisville KY last year
