service question

guys, need some opinions.

several weeks ago I had a def sensor code and check engine light pop up. I was also having a myriad of weird electrical issues, including no crank, gauge display switching, service brake system messages, etc...

i took it to the dealer and they said the code was for a def sensor and Ford suggested replacing the sensor AND the def pump:-huh they cleared the code and sent me on my way until the parts showed up.

shortly after, I found one of my battery terminal clamps was broken and intermittently making good contact with the battery post.
I fixed that and since then all of the electrical issues have NOT returned, nor has the def code. It has been several weeks and at least 1000 miles since the dealer visit.

Now, the def parts are in and they want to do the service. I am reluctant to have them install the new parts because I doubt they need to be replaced. I am pretty convinced all the issues were due to the batter clamp issue. I really don’t want them doing unnecessary work and potentially causing another issue.

What should I do? Truck is scheduled to go in Thursday.
Thanks

Tell them about your discovery with the battery cable clamp and that since repairing it, you have had no symptoms of electrical or DEF issues. "Thanks for the effort, but I appear to be good now."

And frankly, after you were reporting electrical issues, I find it disappointing they didn't notice the clamp.

My theory is that the dealer may have disconnected the battery cables from the terminals during their initial diagnosis...and may have broken / failed to fully tighten the cables back on when they were finished.

Regardless, I'd take the new DEF pump. It is a brand-new Ford part, will have fewer miles on it than the one you have now, and is a low-risk repair. The DEF system does not interact with your engine whatsoever.
