Replaced IP. Shifts a little too high. How to adjust?

If you don't know the whole story, here is the long story: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...idi-van-6.html

Short story: I swapped my leaking 7.3 with a temporary 6.9. I tried to run the 7.3's IP, but it smoked like a chimney. I just put the older 6.9 IP on the 6.9 engine, and now it doesn't smoke so bad.

However, the tranny shifts much later than I like. How can I adjust it so that it shifts a little sooner?

The first place to go for this is adjusting the VRV on the side of the IP. It is the sensor mounted on the opposite side of the throttle lever (right side of IP if you are looking from the front). It as 2 screws that you loosen and then rotate it towards the front of the van or towards the back of the van. One makes it shift earlier and one makes it shift later.....can't remember which is which off the top of my head.

If that doesn't get you where you want you can check the vacuum regulator on the back of the trans. If you pull the line and ATF comes out it is a sign it is bad. I believe there is also a small screw in the regulator for fine tuning, though I have never actually looked or messed with it.

That's what I thought about the IP. I just wanted to make sure before fiddling with it.
