I have a bit of a problem and need advice. My '72 F250 original tires are:


7.5R16 , a diameter of 23.2", a width of 8.9", and a wheel diameter of 17" (16.5). The circumference is 72.9" and the revolutions per mile are 896,
I have the split rims, but what's on the truck I just bought are:


P265/70R16 a diameter of 30.6", a section width of 10.4", and a wheel diameter of 16". The circumference is 96.1" and the revolutions per mile are 679. mounted on Eagle rims.


I don't want to use the original 2 piece rims, I want to keep the Eagles. At a later date I may put original rims (sized rims not the splits), moon caps and tires on the truck just for show at times.
The tires on the truck are the wrong diameter, not even close. I want a lower profile truck tire as close as I can get in the 20's without loosing too much width. Here is one tire I found in the 20's but still not close enough I don't think:


235/75R16 a diameter of 29.9", a width of 9.3", and a wheel diameter of 16". The circumference is 93.8" and the revolutions per mile are 696.



I found these on tiresize.com. Can I get a lower profile Truck tire closer to my desired diameter with out loosing much of the wider width? Load range isn't that important to me since I will not haul or tow anything but still want a truck tire. Thanks for the help.

cyretired2, I don't know that I'm completely clear what your looking for but I'll give it a stab. You want new tires for your Eagle 16" rims in a lower profile so that your overall tire diameter is close to 23.2" but wide like the 265's?
First, I think your original tires (7.5R16) are actually 16" rims, not 17" or 16.5" going off your tire size indicated. The R16 tells me they are 16".
Your 265/70R16 means this: 265mm wide, 70 is your aspect ratio, R16 is your rim/wheel size. So, for a tire just as wide (265mm) but with a overall diameter closer to 23.2" you need a tire with a smaller aspect ratio. Running some quick numbers I figure a 265/35R16 would keep the same width but be 23.3" overall outside diameter. Now I'm not sure how popular tires are in that size but you can play around a bit from there to find one near that size. You probably won't find a true "truck" tire in that size but you said you didn't care about load rating.

Yes that's what I was trying to do, this is what I ended up with (from a previous post):
"I got the 235/60R16 with white letters.The tire guy was nice enough to put the tires I wanted (215's) on my truck to see the difference. Too small compared to what I had on the truck. He suggested the 235/60R16 they looked just fine.
The truck shook badly over 50 and we found out way, one front tire was full of water, (don't ask how) but since the tires were 10 years old and dry rotting anyway I changed them".
I didn't ask if they were Truck tires, I assumed they were, but like I said it doesn't matter since I'm not using it for loads other than groceries or an occasional piece of wood. Rides and handles much better too. The Original wheels which I have, are 16.5's so they call them 17's at tiresize.com I guess they round it off? Thanks for the reply :-X22

BTW, there was 16.5" rims and tires at one time, they are not very popular anymore, but they are not the same as a 16" or a 17" and are not compatible.
