Trailer Camera and Tire Pressure Monitoring System
I purchased the Trailer Camera and Tire Pressure Monitoring System from Ford when I when I ordered my 2017 F-250.
When installing the system the wiring harness is way to long. I would like to shorten the wires. Can I do this without compromising the system. Thanks, David |
In my humble opinion, which is all it is worth, reducing the length of the wires should not cause any problems. Clean well soldered and insulted connection of each wire should make it work just fine. In my case, I may need to add a few additional feet of wire. Good luck!

I would find a way to secure the wires without cutting them. It might not affect the operation but the camera and/or TPMS might have some shielded wires in the bundle the could cause interference if not properly shortened and re-connected.

I'm with Larry on this one. Even if you had no issues from shortening the harness, looping and securing it ensures it will fit your next, longer trailer. It would be unfortunate to have to add it all back in the future for a different setup. On the other hand, just looping it and tying it up somewhere has no downside that I can think of.

I did the install of my wire harness for the TPMS/Camera this weekend. I ended up with a good 10' of extra wire. I made a loop of it, secured the loop with cable ties and then secured the whole loop under the trailer. Someday, I hope to have a larger trailer and that extra 10' may be critical on that trailer.

Thanks for the replys.
I did shorten the cables and yes some of them were shielded. I carefully removed the shield and reinstalled it on the shorten cables. Both the camera and air monitor worked just fine. |
