Rim Width Importance
I finally got all seven of my 16" rims in one place without any tires. 3 are from the original truck and are 5" wide. The other 4 I obtained a few years ago are 4 1/2" wide. How important is the width? The three 5" ones are in good shape as they have been on the truck driving, while at least one of other four 4 1/2" ones is a bit rusty and until they get sandblasted tomorrow, I won't know for sure how good a shape they are. I didn't even think about width until I saw the rims side-by-side.
Should I hold off and find another 5" wide rims to match the original width? I'm trying to keep them stock. Were 4 1/2" wide available at the time? Ws there an option to choose? and why would one choose one over the other? The 16" x 4.5" is 8C-1015 / K-H 31283. It is listed in my wheel references as optional in 1964, but I'll defer to Bill on whether Ford's Chassis Catalog also lists it. My latest Chassis Catalog is 1963. The 16" x 5" is Ford B4C 1015-A / K-H 38189. I show it optional through 1965. Both wheels have "innie" hub cap nubs and, importantly, both have .620" of positive offset. So mixing the sizes will not imho be especially noticeable because the tires and rims will be equally balanced on the center discs. There will be 1/4" less visible rim on the face of the 4.5" variety. Stu

Thanks. Getting them all blasted and primed. Will probably use the 5" on the rear and 4.5" up front and will be on the look-out for a couple of 16 x 5" rims eventually.
