New rims - what size?
I have a 2005 F350 Superduty crewcab diesel 4x4. Somehow I took a chunk out of one of my rear rims, so I need a new one. I can't find an exact match, so I'm looking for a set of four.
My tires are 35x12.5x18 (factory says 275/70R18, so these are a bit larger than the original tires). I read somewhere in the forum that it's hard to find good tires for 18" rims. Is there a recommended size I should get? I bought the truck to tow a fifth wheel, but most of the time I'm just driving city streets and not towing anything. I rarely take the truck off road; the 4x4 is more because it snows here. |
Lots of options for 18" tires. I have 18" (oem) on both my 2006 and 2011 F350's and have had a bunch of different tires on them over the years.

Go with nitto's or toyo's and never look back
Ideally youd want a 18x9 or a 18x10 Technically that wide of a tire should be on a 10" wide wheel but will fit on 9" wide Also i think you would be happier with a - offset wheel. You can compare the factory offset to the offset of wheels you are interested in and will give you a rough idea of how much farther they will stick out, or measure your current wheels backspacing and compare to the wheels you are looking at. Just make sure you get a wheel that will handle the load rating of the tires. Most aftermarket wheels will max at around 3000-3500 lbs |

18" tires may have been limited 15 years ago, but the market is full now.
It's hard to answer your question without knowing your taste. I prefer a 9" wide rim with about 0 offset. You could stick with 35's, I'm assuming you have a small lift. Another option would be 295/70r18, which would be the same height, a tiny bit narrower, but have a load rating of over 4K and will handle 80psi, which is nice when towing a fifth wheel or large travel trailer. Here is my 18x9 +1 offset and 12.50 tiresAttachment 180310 If you want to keep the tires tucked to keep the sides of your truck clean, go with +18 or so. Your factory wheel would be around +44. I'm really liking these nitto ridge grapplers, but can't comment on any long term performance. |
Nitto makes one hell of a tire, only tires i will ever run.
Some good advice ron |
This is what is on my truck now and were on it when I bought the truck:
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...8a634abdae.jpg I don't particularly like these tires as they're noisy and don't have a smooth ride to them. I looked up the specs on the Nitto Ridge Grapplers and they say they're quiet. Hard to tell without putting them on the truck. I've always liked the look of BF Goodrich All Terrain, but again, I don't know how they sound or ride. The Nittos have a better load index and aren't much more. I've never tried offset rims though, so I'm not sure I'd go that route. What does that do to the handling of the truck? |

Man sucks about those wheels, those are eagle alloy wheels and id guess they are 18x9. Id measure them and get as close as the same offset as you can. Unfortunately they are discontinued.
My dad has those wheels on his 03 f350 with I believe 295/70r18 my dads are 18x9 not sure on the backspacing though, id stay with the same offset if possible. Notice the new nitto terra graplers. He had 325/60r18's on it but the sidewall was ballooned too much, i think the widest tire you can put on a 9" wide wheel and look good is a 305. Plus the 295's are just a tad taller then his 325's Man those wheels are a pain to polish, i spent a hour a piece on them Attachment 180321 |
Improves handling with a wider stance, but it adds premature wear to your suspension, especially wheel bearings. As long as you keep that offset low, it's not a big deal. Do 12" wide wheels and -44, then you will wear stuff out quick.
I took 28570r17 BFG at's off for these wheels and tires. 37x12.50 ridge grapplers are quieter than the BFG's. But they are not silent. If road noise is a real high concern for you, you may look else wear. Maybe a nitto terra grappler or a Michelin defender ltx. Lots of choices, take your time. By they way, those aren't stock wheels, give us a side shot so we can guess offset. |
Here ya go these are the specs for your current wheels sax, i know im awesome lol
Eagle alloy 114 series (discontinued) 18x8.5 Wheel Height: 18" Wheel Width: 8.5" Offset: 10 Bolt Pattern: 8x170 Back Spacing: 5.14370" Weight: 34 Load Rating: 3420 . lbs Finish: Super Finish |
Beautiful truck by the way.

I normally like black wheels, but I think your truck would look best by keeping the polished wheels. I really like this style wheel and about went with them. They have it in a 18x9 +2 offset.
Just a suggestion, but your taste may differ. http://www.aewheel.com/wheels_detail...d=1990&cat=472 |
Thise look good but look too close to the factory style, but hey everyone likes something different. The only bad part about black wheels especially matte wheels is they are hard to keep clean and dont hold up well to heavy scrubbing, usually the more shiny it is the more durable

Also sax how big of a chunk are we talking? Any pics?

I'm also a fan of Nitto tires, but I am running the Highway tread Dura Grapplers in 305/70R18E (35.28" X 12.8") on OEM '04 Lariat 8" wide wheels. These are 65 PSI Load Range E tires rated at 3750lbs, they are the quietest truck tire I have ever run and they handle my heavy TT towing work very well (over 6k rear axle weight) and are wearing even and slowly.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f864812e66.png I know the wheel specs were already posted, but here's a shot from the back anyway. Hope y'all can excuse the messy truck. It's still winter here. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c527f76ce5.jpg |
