What is this? (1942 something?)
Not super knowledgeable about 40's truck, could anyone shed some light on what I've got here? Was listed as "1942 Truck". I thought I read the '42's only made production for 2 months so what would I have here? It's a flathead V8 if that helps.

It looks military with no park lights. Does the windshield swing out? Ford made them without much change all the way through the war for the war effort.

It's a G8T. The guards over the headlights, blanked out parking lights, swing out windshield, no Ford script on good sides, no whiskers on sides of hood latch on the front and no hood spears, are the immediate differences from the civilian trucks. The truck should be 158" wheelbase. There are quite a few around still, many were sold as surplus after the War.

I see quite a few spots of the telltale military olive drab green peeking through the peeling white paint.

Looks like someone fastened some clips on the side of the windshield. Maybe the inside swing adjusters (lack of a better term) are gone?

Definitely Military. The wheels are the standard Military 6-Bolt as was used on the GMC and Chevy Trucks as opposed to Ford's 5-Lug.

Thanks everyone, 1943 G8T. Anyone want to hazard a guess on a good purchase price? Comes with Flathead 8 + 4 speed, I'd assume the motor is G series. Pretty sure that wouldn't have been original despite PO claiming it is. No rust showing, interior is gone. I wouldn't mind picking it up for future use but don't want to overpay.

The G series is a flathead 226 inline 6 cylinder. IIRC, all the G8T were 6 cylinder. So either the flathead V8 is a swap, or the seller is mistaken.
As for price, think of it like any other big truck, then add a little for the military factor. Quite a few guys here have the big trucks, but I think you'll find that the big trucks don't bring much money, nothing like the 1/2 and 1 tons. Id maybe guess a couple thousand, at most, the way it sits. Does it run or drive? Does he have a title? |

Ya I was 99% sure it was just another G Series 8 that the PO had sitting around, thanks for confirming! The motor does run, but it's out of the truck. A couple thousand? Haha I'm already in the <$500 bracket so I guess I'll pull the trigger! I have a 1950 F4 I'm restoring now anyways, 2 projects is always better than 1 right? |
It is definitely worth the $500, but not a lot more the way it sits. It is military, but not in demand like the CCKW or the Chevy 1-1/2 ton. Most of these trucks were sent overseas to Britain and Russia during the war, so they are not very common. The right collector might pay $1000-$2000 the way it is (if it runs). I did read somewhere that a few of those trucks did have the V-8 engine. (Who knows of it is true). It is the start of a cool project.
