Liquid steel on headers
 

So my headers are old and need to be replaced.but like every other hard working man no money. So I talked to a coworker about fixing them and he told me to try liquid steel. So I looked in too it and gave it a try. Liquid steel sounds like epoxy and filings. If that's what you mean, then no. Not a good idea. If you want to save your headers and can't weld, go to somebody who can. A muffler shop may be cheaper than you think. Some place with a name like Joe's garage, or Mufflers are us. Most any independent shop has someone that can do at least a little welding.

I have used a product I got from Napa. It's in a silver tube it's a exhaust joint sealant. I can't find the tube to send you a pic. I used it on my exhaust manifold it had big pits and would not seal. I coated it with that stuff and it held up. As for the cracks I doubt it would help unless you put some kind of cover over it and hose clamped it on. Which is way to hill Billy for me. But I have seen people do it that is why I mentioned it. After my last response I have thought about your post. Came back and read everyone else's post. I agree weld them if there is enough metal left to weld. The way I previous posted is a temporary bandage. And not correct at all. I know what it's like to be short on funds but half a@$ only comes back to get you later. I would watch the for sale section here or craigslist, offer up. I've heard Facebook even has local truck parts section. My buddy sells alot of parts on Facebook. So yeah I'm backing out of my last post I wouldn't do that product on thin header flanges or cracked pipes.

I agree with everyone.the person I ask is a welder and has work on headers before. My header are pretty thin That's why he said to try the liquid steel. I don't drive my truck to much so I'm hoping this fix will get me bye until I get my new ones. I don't like to do things haft a$$.this is my dream truck and hopefully I can take it to the next level. And make it look even better. Thanks again for the post they really help.

Just buy cheap headers. In the usa, probably under $200.
