I got my truck today
Hey all,
I've been reading through the forums for a while now, but I finally found and bought my first bullnose! My dad has an '81 F150 Custom with the l6, and it's creeping up on 350k miles. I decided that I wanted a truck like his, so I went out and found one that was relatively similar. Picked him up today, meet 'Lurch', my new truck. He's a bit of a project. As I told my dad, 'Everything is a little broken, but everything is repairable. It made the 160 mile drive home, so at least there is that. :) https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...8bc0b440a2.jpg Cheers everybody! - Dan |
Welcome to FTE! And, congrat's on the truck. Looks like a good project. But, what's with the liquid under the front bumper? ;)
And, where is home? |

Maybe "his" new turf? Didn't think "hers" did that. :-X06

The liquid is coolant/condensation. There is no hose between the radiator and the reservoir, so it just drips water out. That's a quick fix. For now it is a he because, as jmtbiggin pointed out, the name 'Lurch' didn't seem fitting for a lady :P

Still not sold on the masculine name for your truck. I'm pretty sure it's a law, possibly in the Bill of Rights, stating that all conveyances must have a feminine name. For example, my wife named our truck Bessie, like a faithful old cow that always finds her way back to the barn. |
KR, I think it is his dads truck with 350K on it.
Dan, welcome to FTE. How bout a little more details on the truck? Motor, trany, gear ratio found on the door cert sticker. Heck just post up a picture of the sticker as it has some good information on it that can help you down the road. What plans do you have for the truck? Just a nice driver/work truck or a cab off frame rebuild? Some of us are guilty of that for a driver/work truck - why everybody looking at me :-X21 Dave ---- |
Or, decode your own certification label here: Certification Label - ???Gary's Garagemahal.

And, where is home? To be honest I have no idea about the milage. It reads 7100 right now, but was recorded at 35k in '86. My guess is that it's at 207k. I plan to make it my work truck/driver. I have a motorcycle that I can ride 80% of the time where I live, so calling it a daily driver might be an exaggeration. :P It's got 4 in the floor (transmission code B), the 4.7L l6, and it's hard for me to make out much more from the sticker. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...fc91866673.jpg |
Just make sure you keep it away from stop sign runners, they have a way of putting a damper on all the fun: picked mine up Tuesday night, and by Wednesday at 6:30 this is what it looked like.
