F250 Short Block
Would like some opinions on a used 2008 F250 Lariat FX4 6.4L diesel, automatic that I'm considering purchasing (need higher towing capacity than my F150 V8). Truck has 260k miles on it; however, the Ford dealer replaced short block last July at a cost of about $10k. Engine currently has 7500 miles on it. Cosmetically, truck looks like new, has brush guard, 20" Toyo's (new). Price is $20k. Obvious concern is the 260k miles on the rest of the drive train. Would you go for it or not touch it with a 10 ft pole?
Thanks |

Thanks I have always said that given the amount of maintenance and some mods, any diesel can be a good one............. But, after reading the 6.4 forum, I don't know if that is so true. But that group would be the best source for an answer. - Preston |
I hear that the 6.4's are really finicky... Especially about fuel. While they fixed the strength issues of the 6.0, they completely changed the fuel system. I have also heard that they are very not diy friendly if you don't have a lift to pull the cab.
Ask in the 6.4 forum though because I really don't know for sure. Just rumors. The 6.0 had a bad rep till people figured out how to fix the faults... Maybe things have changed for the 6.4 too. Richard |
