Bought a 6.4 last week and excellent fuel economy
Last week we bought a 2010 6.4L LB DRW XLT (not deleted, purely stock motor). One reason is we need a truck to tow an RV later next year and the other is our Expedition is getting old beyond repair.
The six-four has a rebuilt Ford motor with 40,000 left in warranty and has a total of 304900 miles. We put just over 900 on it since last Wednesday purchase date. It went to Tallahassee and back. The body is perfect, tires perfect, interior perfect. appears to run perfect. I've been using it right now to run from downtown Atlanta (worst traffic in the universe to north of Atlanta 30 miles to the office. So far mixed miles looks like it's getting me roughly 19.3 MPG. If I reset during just highway, I'm on 23-24 MPG. I verified my base 19mpg figures by topping off the tank and doing math by hand. Lots of folks barely get 15-18 with a delete. I'm guessing we may have a rare one that beats the 20 mark ? I was wondering if it would be worth adding some kind of tune on top of the EGR/DPF system to get even more mpg ? anyone know of a good brand ? maybe just a better air intake ? |
If you really getting that kind of mileage, I wouldn't touch it!!!! That kind of mileage honestly is rare for this motor!
Welcome to FTZ! |
I might hand calculate to see if it's right.
|
No way, something is wrong.
|
I did some basic hand calcs today. they were rough because i didn't make a note of mileage just amount of commutes. but worst mpg was still 19.
i'm going to be doing a clear highway test as soon as i can to verify.

I'm getting pretty good MPG with mine as well.. got about 15.5 MPG over an 120 mile stretch with a ~1500 lb camper attached.
Better than the F150 it replaced anyways. Later C |
I would be checking the accuracy of the speedometer/odometer with a gps. I looked at one once that the owner insisted he was getting mileage similar to yours. It turned out that somebody had made a mistake when reprogramming the computer for tire size change and the speedometer was 15% off overstating the miles.

Is your truck deleted, egr block offs, etc? Programmer? Is this typical mileage on a totally stock 450 witha 6.4? |

Sounds about like my 450 when it was stock with no load.
|
I haven't driven it unloaded since the delete/tuner change. I get about 2 mpg better now loaded from 9-11. Of course, those are approximates. I did the dpf delete for reliability, and the egr is turned off with that change. I didn't buy a 450 for mileage although an improvement of any type with better reliability is always good.
|
that kind of mileage is way to high for that truck. my guess is your truck isnt reading it right. also once its warranty runs out i suggest getting it deleted asap.
