Tailgate cap recommendations
Got a 2011 f250.
Tailgate cap is missing, and the top is a little beat up from use. What options do I have? I see those $30 black metal after market ones on Amazon, but can't find one for my 2011 f250. If I go OEM and spend $60-70 im worried that some of my holes for the clips won't work since they are bent up, so it might fly off. Could I use 3m tape and some self tapping screws to secure it? I see this a lot, so sure there's a simple solution. Thanks |
I think I would go with an OEM cap, and self tapping screws with grommets/flat washers if it was me. But this is without seeing how badly puckered up your edge is on your tailgate.

Thanks for the response. Ordered the OEM off amazon for $60.
All the aftermarket ones didn't cover the entire section the OEM one does. Guess I'll use some self tapping screw I have, then hit them with black spray paint so they blend in kinda |
Put some flat washers and/or grommets between the screw heads and the plastic, so it's less easy to rip the cover through the screw heads.

Good idea. Will do.

When I bought my '13 it was missing the cap, but not dented up. I ordered a new OEM cap from Amazon of all places and when I removed the tailgate access panel to replace the cap I put the angled lip part of the panel in my brake and lightly tweaked it a tad so it clamps tighter on the front, bottom edge of the plastic cap. I can't say that I was necessarily in need of tweaking, but I figured it wouldn't hurt and at least I have peace of mind that the new cap has a better chance of not flying off.
