Towing Help
Quick question on loads and towing because i really dont want to buy new stuff but also dont want to risk towing if i am over weight.
I am driving a Ford F350 SWD 2012 that has gooseneck and bumper hitches. I also have a two axle, 30 foot gooseneck trailer that has 7000 lb axles. It is 6500 lbs on the axles with no weight in the trailer. I have about 8200 lbs to tow. With the gooseneck and everything, can i tow this with what i have? Or do i need a beefier trailer and/or beefier truck. Colin |
The truck should be able to handle the load without much problem. Which engine?
The trailer seems a little light for that load. How far and fast are you hauling? |
The truck will do it just fine, no matter which engine you have. Trailer is kinda small....

I will be hauling the load cross Canada and to St Johns so lots of hills and turns. Speed will be normal highway driving.

Colin The trailer weighs 6500 The load weighs. 8200 Total. 14700 Now, if you are carrying 20-25% on the pin, you should be carrying approximately 3000 - 3500 lb on the truck. But, with that, I would definitely scale everything, get your actual axle weights, how much the truck is carrying and all that before embarking on a cross country trip! Make sure tires are of proper load and speed rating, wheel bearings serviced, brakes operational and all that good stuff. Your weight is going to be marginal at best for both the truck and the trailer. Good luck, and happy trails! |
gonna be close on those trailer axles but that is really your only concern.

Thanks for the input. I will get all the weights double checked and the good thing is i can weigh the whole load close to my warehouse without hitting any major hills or "bumps" to ensure the weight actually on the trailer axles is fine. Cheers all.

Air all tires (truck too) to the max cold psi on the sidewalls. You want max air for max load.
