looking for alignment specs for volare front clip on a 51
So I'm finally getting my 51 ford truck diving again and its time to take it to the alignment shop. I'm not sure if I should be asking them to use some special other alignment range or just go with the factory alignment specs for the Volare.

I would give the left front about 1/2 camber.RF 0. (1/2 degree difference for road crown)
3 degrees caster. and an 1/8 inch of toe in. |
Make certain you have the ride height where you want it before aligning - even small changes in ride height afterward can cause tire wear issues. Chrysler t-bar suspensions (and Ford Twin-I-Beam) need good shocks to keep tire wear in check.
My 2¢, for what it's worth... Camber isn't as effective as caster to compensate for road crown. Less than ½° camber can sometimes make a vehicle with radials drive sloppy. Typically 1/2° more positive caster on the right will compensate for 1½" of road crown. |
thank you both for the input. I'm hoping I can get to three degrees of caster. with the volare clip welded in the way they are it seems like the uncertain part. I was going to take it in tomorrow but I'm getting a weird vibe in the rear end I need to track down before I drive it in to town. probably tires went bad sitting so long. and maybe because I might have used them as supports to place the rear end on when I was welding on it. we will see.

I think those's had slotted holes that the upper control arm bolts slid in. You can always take a die grinder and elongate them. I had to do that on my MII set up. I followed the instructions and was to have something like 33'' between the center of the shock mount holes. Thats what I had right on and when I aligned it I had way to much positive camber. Had to make the slots like 1/2'' longer.
