Ford 26.5k or 27.5k fifth wheel hitch

I have a 2016 F350 Diesel Dually with an 8 ft bed. It has the 5th Wheel Tow Prep installed. I want to get a fifth wheel hitch from Ford but I'm confused about what they list on their accessory site.

They show a hitch with a GTWR of 27.5k that is $200 cheaper than a hitch with a GTWR of 26.5k. All other ratings appear to be the same.

Does anyone know what the difference might be?

Looks like a great deal on the 27.5

Curious what your towing that you need such a heavy hitch?

If possible I would opt for the heavier one. Always nice to have some reserve.

Any way the Ford dealer can get you access to the respective owner manuals? That's the only way I can see you getting the info you need for your particular use.

Senix, I was actually referring to the owner manuals for the two hitches. Hopefully there's something there to help decide if the $200 difference is worth it and explain the different load rating.

I have the 18k which is the same as a Reese Elite. It's odd they list two of them, also $200 apart. I don't see any difference in them. The 18k is easy to disassemble into two parts for quick and easy removal. They told me the hitches are covered under vehicle warranty when purchased with the vehicle. Dealers don't repair hitches, they only replace them with new ones if you have any problems.

To each his own but why buy the hitch from Ford at their inflated price. Why not get a Reese or Hensley adapter and then you can run any hitch you want ....... for less money.

I negotiated mine when I bought my truck, they sold it to me at their cost, saving me $250 over the Reese. Cheaper for them to do that then throwing in all weather floor mats or cheesy paint protection. It really doesn't cost them ANYTHING and they sell a vehicle that has the highest margin return of anything else they sell.
