Hard thud while accelerating decelerating at speed

I have a 90 ford bronco 5.0L and when ever I accelarate / decelerate at speeds above 30 mph I hear and feel a thud from the floor board I've changed out the rear u joint. The u joints look fine but I can't seem to get rid of this thud on when I speed up other slow down. The engine and transmission mounts look fine from what I can tell any other ideas?

did you grease up the slip joint really good?

Yeshua 09-12-2016 11:15 AM

Slip joint grease

It looked pretty well greased I didn't add any to it though.

A pinion bearing going out will give these same symptoms.

Pinion bearing

I'll look in to that and let you know what I find out thanks.

the issue with the 8.8 is you cant really snug the pinion down if it is loose. you will need a new crush sleeve and apply the proper torque if that is whats occuring.

I have similar issues but at lower speeds, the transmission guy I go to says my mount is bad and causing the tranny to move and thunk.

Tranny mounts

I'll check my tranny mounts tomorrow

Thud

There's a sensor on the rear end above the ring and pinion on the inside people think it's at abs but it's not just changed mine fixed one of many problems on my 96 I just got on trade...

Yeshua 09-20-2016 11:05 PM

Checked the tranny mounts there good haven't changed the sensor yet I'm pretty sure if I change the sensor my rear anti lock light will go out.

your Radius arm bushings may need changed. have you peaked at those recently?

More troubles

Thanks i'll take a look at those. But I have a new problem developing. I'm hearing a clicking from the front wheel well and it goes away when braking. I took the passenger side tire off to spin the hub to try and isolated the problem and found that when I spin the hub gets tight and hard to spin when I take the caliper off the hub spins freely no problem so what is causing the clicking? Is it the brakes or something else?

probably time for new caliper

Would the caliper cause clicking?

Kemicalburns 09-27-2016 01:01 PM

the clicking could be a number of things. Bearings, the brake pad tattle tails, could also be a tire weight mounted to the inside of the wheel that is hitting the caliper/brake pad pins. my wheels do this due to the weights being mounted there.
