Noisy power steering

Is noisy power steering just a ford thing, or just somethign that seems to happen to every ford product ive ever owned. I have a 2000 B3000 and the power steering is quite loud when you turn the wheel at low, or no speed. What can i do to get rid of the whining sound its making?

The only Ford product I've ever seen that didn't have a loud PS pump is my 2000 Merc. Mystique. Brand spanking new pumps are quiet, but after that about the only way to alleviate the noise is to wear some earplugs...

It is pretty normal for fords. Mine does the same thing, as long as your moving it usually isn't that loud, but if your stopped it is very noticable.

I notice that autozone has a $12 kit for the power steering pump. I wonder what special tools and problems that would entail. I'm considering the rebuilt PS pump for mine too.

i would pay the extra money and get the rebuilt ps pump. It shouldn't repuire any special tools. You just have to be carefuly, and know what your doing.

That's odd. I've owned 4 Ford trucks, and a Ford car. And 3 of them had over 100k miles, one had 83K, and my current one is new. And NONE of them ever gave me a single problem with noises from the power-steering pump. I personally think yours has a problem.

Wait another couple of years, and it will happen. Where I work most of the vehicles with ps problems have indeed been Fords. I'm not raggin on them but, it seems to be an inevident problem. I am unsure if I spelled that word right. But most of the ps problems seem to be late model Windstars and Rangers.

Look around at the other posts, this happens to all Ford', Mazda's, and Mercury's. I wish it didn't, my 89 Bronco 351 P.S. pump is louder than my exhaust, and it is brand new! It said right on the box when I opened it that the thing would be loud ... unacceptable.
