2010 F550 Clock spring HELP!
 

Hello there, i have a 2010 F550 Diesel of corse :). The clock spring behind the steering wheel went out and i am not sure how to change it. I would hate for the air bag go off in my face for doing something wrong.
is there a video or a step by step i can look at? Thank you in advance for the help

The air bag comes off before you can remove the steering wheel , and click spring .

On the 2006 what you do is disable the SRS (pull the fuse) turn the key on
and wait for about 30sec I think for the airbag light to light telling you that
there is a problem with the circuit. Turn the key off. I then wait 5 minutes. (my doing)take the caps off the side of the wheel and remove the bolts that hold the bag
in place. Tip bag away from wheel and very carefully unplug the connectors. The
air bag connector has a shorting bar in it to prevent static buildup and spark. If that
happens you get bag deployment. (not a good thing to have happen)

Now on the rest. If you happen to have a single bolt holding the wheel on you may
want to get a replacement one if you need to use a puller. to keep the threads nice
use the bolt head as a pivot for the puller. Keep all force as close to the center as
you can. Once the wheel is loose you have to feed the wires back through the covers
on the wheel. Then remove the covers on the steering column and replace the assembly.

During reassembly there will be a torque value for the bolt that holds the wheel on.

You should expect to see the bolt as a torx type fastener and it will have some thread locker on it.

Please keep in mind this can all be the wrong steps for a 2010.
Your better off if you can get your hands on a shop manual.

Oh ok, thank you that is what I was wondering. I did not know how to get steering wheel off, I thought you took off the air bag lid. I will give it a shot when I go back on Tuesday. Thank you for the help I will let you know and also take pics of the process for anyone else needing to know.

So i did a run into it tonight i ran out of work to do so i figured i would get into it. I found that there are three clips that hold the air bag in. You have to either remove column shroud or turn wheel till you can see clips.

I removed shroud ( it was easier in my opinion)
Then removed the air bag Via three clips holding it in.
Then remove the 50 MM torque head screw holding steering wheel on. And it was simple after that.

Now i just have to get the right one from ford... they sent me the wrong on. plugs did nit match

One thing ti remember is remove neg cables from batteries for about 30 mins to assure no power to bags. You can take number 32 fuse out as well if you want.

That will help other people that are having to deal with this problem.
