e4od slipping between gears

My e4od in my 1995 f250 160k has been slipping between 3 and OD kinda sounds like toque converter lock up lets go. but when i put the tunes on i notice it in most gears. it has me thinking because some times it shifts fine and the next moment it slips. I heard spedo sensor connection... any info or link to a thread on this issue. no codes and OD OFF light isn't blinking. Thanks

Most guys around here will tell you the first thing to do is take the chip out and see what happens.

Next will be to check 3rd brake light and be sure you aren't using LED lights anywhere.

Other questions are does the speedo bounce and does the cruise work.

Then if you are sure there are no codes and you want to change the VSS it is in the top of the rear axle and they all say to buy from FORD not the regular parts stores.

There is a mod you can do to add a light to see when the torque converter is commanded by the PCM to lock up. Then you can see if it is unlocking correctly or not.

I had transmission issues similar to yours, it was my TC taking a dump. I too had no codes. Some of the things I remember reading were to make sure the fluid levels were right, something about getting proper operating pressure. My other advise is if you want to find the person that knows the least about these transmissions, visit your local Ford dealer. Your experience may vary. I am in no means an expert, just relaying some things I found in my reading.

I had a similar experience you were having, It felt like my 3 to 4 shift was slipping, but it turned out to be my TC slipping more than normal. Then one day, my TC stopped locking up completely. No Codes, no flashing OD light.
Replaced my TC and everything is working fantastic again.
