When did Ford start using the 6.2l engine?

Please be gentle. I'm the wifey, but it is my duty to shop for a truck whilst my dearest does what he does to pay the bills. We're in the market for a new to us truck. Our current vehicle is a 2004 Expedition, 5.8l. We love it! It's seen us through both our kids and a lot of camp trips. But alas, the ol' girl is starting to nickle and dime us to death. We want to go back to a truck. We do tow a trailer (not a 5th wheel). We had our eye on a 6.2l truck at a local dealership but it got sold before we were ready to make the plunge (another $400 part ago). I've tried figuring out when the 6.2 became available on the super duties and I'm in over my head. I'm thinking the answer should be simple for y'all. Just need the year so we can do a better job of searching used truck inventories. And before you say it, new is out of the question, unless you're paying. :-X06

2011 to 2017 for now.
with the 6 speed automatic..

transmission and final drive are the same for the 6.2L Gas and the Diesel Super duty.

also on the Super Duty.. you can see the HOURS run and hours idle of the engine..

very helpful to determine it use.

on my 2012 6.2l.. I purchased last summer.

136,000 miles and 4,100 hours so average of 36 mph.. a freeway truck
and 600 hours idling... many 1/2 hour lunches.

mine was a Fleet/Lease work truck. with records.

shop around.. good ones are out there. but may take a little time.

Thank you guys so much! We've been looking a bit for the last month. The repairs on the Expedition have caused us to speed up the process a bit. We live in SoCal so it's not a big truck area. Having to fling the search nets out 500+ miles to find ones, but they are out there.
As usual, you guys know your stuff. Thanks!!!!!:-drink

What type of trailer are you towing and how much does it way? If you are towing a heavy trailer in the mountains you may want to consider looking at trucks with 4:30 gear instead of the 3:73.

If they were pulling with a '04 expedition 5.4. They'll have no need to worry about further complicating their search to only 4.3 geared trucks. The 3.73's(more common) will do just fine.
