My 86 F250 had a new process 4-speed in it.

Only way to know for sure is to crawl under the truck and look.

This bit of info narrows it down to 3 different 4 speeds! :-X04

TRANS code printed on the Certification Label, glued to the left door face.

It could be any of the following: A = New Process 435 4 Speed / F = Borg Warner T-18 4 Speed / P = Borg Warner T-19 4 Speed.

T-18/T-19 = The shift lever retainer cap (8MTH-7220) threads off/on.

New Process 435: The shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches, is retained to the shift tower with two pins.

This cap must be pressed down by hand and held down while turning it counterclockwise to remove it.

Some unknowing people use pliers to remove it, which tears out one or both of the notches. Not pleasant!
