Warming up this weekend; we've had too much gloom on the coast this past week.

Gonna be a really hot next few days. Our mom's 101 birthday party on Sat will be over 100* in the valley.
Palm Springs up to around 115* !!!
Let's see...extra watering, open the car/truck Windows a bit, don't drive to the Colorado River, no pets to keep inside, change out that furnace/ a-c filter.

Those are some good genes to have in the family pool. Especially after raising 3 hell-raisers! Sounds like you're well prepared for the warm adventure.

I have never pried off or pushed on a bearing before. I've got an application (not on a vehicle) where I have to remove and reinstall a sleeve pressed on to a shaft.

Assuming the local auto parts stores loan you the tools, is it hard?

Nope, not too hard with the right tools.
Harbor Freight does sell a neat kit if you can't find a loaner.
Here's a few I had to replace on my outdrive.
Take your time using the right tools and it's a breeze.

Dave if you don't want to rent the tools, buy the tools or deal with it, take it to an old style auto parts store like All Car Parts on Vanowen and Canoga and they will press it on for you.

By "sleeve", are you referring to a race? I dont know much, but removal of a race involves a grinder, hammer and cold chisel. And the correct way to install is with a press.

I guess I mean collar.

Ah, ok. Well post some pics of how you do it. I think it is cool to see things that I have not done yet.

Most of the time a Pitman puller would do the trick.
Not sure that old unit has enough gap to get a firm hold, or, even if it's set up to removed.
You might have to hack saw it off, but that doesn't work too well if you need to replace it also.
Junk yard maybe, if it's not an antique?

well got my van to pass smog on the 2nd try today.... got the back fees paid up and a fancy new sticker in hand, and insured it today.....did well in my eyes. also vacuumed out the dirt, sand, and food crumbs. also fixed the passenger side door handle that was not working.

now i just need to fix my spedo/odometer (PSOM) not working which i feel is causing the transmission to shift harsh.

todays been productive!
