Simplifying fuel system - 90 F150, 4.9L

I want to simplify my fuel system on 1990 F-150, 4.9L, 5-sp truck as I bring it back to life. Truck is extended cab, long box.

Currently have dual tanks, one side tank, drivers side and one rear, behind axle. I want to be rid of one of the two tanks completely.

I think I would prefer to run single tank in rear position with a single in-tank pump. What parts would I need? Can I completely ditch the side tank, it's LP pump, the frame-mounted pump, the selector switch, all of it?

I have looked at previous threads with the 39 gal. tank. Is there another option, somewhere in between factory size and the giant 39 gal? Or is there a side tank option that's larger than factory?

What parts for these ideas? I have noted the p/n's in previous threads showing Amazon or RockAuto links.

Can someone with better knowledge or past experience lend help?

Thanks!

You would need to run the later model pump which put the high pressure pump in the tank to do away with the frame mounted high pressure pump.

You could do away with all the twin tank plumbing and run a single high pressure feed directly to the engine along with a return to the one tank. Check out a Bronco, or a single tank truck for how the lines are arranged.

I thought the 1990 model year trucks did away with the low pressure in tank pumps and the frame mounted pump? Unless the 4.9 engine or the extended cab is an exception.

I don't know why you would want to do away with the dual tanks. I absolutely cherish them.

1990 was the first year the F series gas engine trucks used individual high pressure pumps in each tank. Are you sure yours is a 1990 model year?
