Performance Online Power Steering For F1
 

I am thinking about going this route instead of the Toyota power steering I have already installed and not used. The 390 exhaust is hitting and if I go with the power steering mounted on the axle this will give me room for the stock manifold or even headers plus open up more room. I have been looking for other ex manifolds that they say will work but no luck and don't like having to weld the cross over ones up. I know some don't like this kit but some do. what do you guys think. I can't afford to build my 302 and fmx trans. I can sell my Toyota stuff and buy the other kit

I'm curious as to how the axle constantly bouncing up and down will feel when transmitted directly to the column shaft. I'd be sure to get a written satisfaction guarantee in case it drives like crap. Just because it steers the wheels isn't enough of a guarantee for me.

I just looked at this kit and it looks exactly like the now discontinued No-Limits unit. I have the complete set up, including power steering pump, modified spindles, etc that I removed from my 51 F1. The PO had it installed and drove it for a few miles; I never drove it, as the truck was in pieces when I bought it.

I went back to fully stock manual steering. I'll give you a fantastic deal on my No-Limits system if you want to experiment with it. I believe that it is complete.

You would be adding to the unsprung weight, some would probably swear the ride is rougher but you will have to investigate.

Seems like allot of money, have you considered doing a welder series mustang II crossmember with a rack and pinion instead?

I would like a mustang set up but before I had to quit working I went through the complete front end and did the Toyota power steering set up. Now with a very low budget I am limited to how to get it up running. That is why I took the good 390 out of my 69 f250. If I had the money I would build my 302 motor I had it set up to run with and my fmx tranny. I have seen on this site that some have run this set up and liked it.

I understand that, maybe the no limits kit from John would be a good way to go then!

Yes you can. I even have the heavy duty link between the new tie rod ends and the joint at the box to a double d column, and the pitman arm. The whole nine yards.

There is a collapsible shaft between the rack and the steering column to take up for this. I have done a lot of research and it looks good and it will also help me out on the exhaust. I started taking the other set up off today and need to pull the motor out so the box will come out. I still need to find a rear sump oil pan and different oil filter mount for a car not the truck.

I truly hope it works as advertised. I'm just curious...

Thanks, I have read them before and also some more on the web where they have ran this on other trucks. Some like it and some don't. With my set up and budget I have no other choice. If I had the money I would build my 302 and keep the Toyota set up.

I have been contemplating the same conversion and have been in communication with Western Chassis to find out if the system will work on the M68 with drum brakes .

I have had good luck with this setup . I made my own bracket to mount the rack to the axle and have gone about 8000 miles so far without any problems. In my albums are more pics. I drive my truck almost every day, one handed, 60 mph, and under sometimes 2 miles , sometimes 40 miles at a time in town and on the freeway. Mine works fine.
