65 F100 2wd cab
 

I'm new to the 61-66 trucks as I've focused mostly on the 67-72. I decided to build one of these finally and have been learning and reading a lot about these trucks the past couple of weeks.

My 65 F100 2wd swb has a cab with the steps on the rocker. From my reading it looks like the 65-66 2wd drive trucks should have a smooth flat floor without the steps. Am I correct in thinking this is a swapped cab from a 61-64 or from a 4wd truck?

The VIN tag looks like it decodes right for truck, but I certainly could be wrong on that and number dummy will clear it up instantly.

Its dark out when i took the pictures so the flash made the pictures a bit rougher to see. Transmission code is A, axle code is C2.

All help and input is greatly appreciated.

I'll wait for ND, but tis a shame while you had the door open you couldn't snap a photo of the step.

Other than cabs and sheet metal there is very little difference in the pickups from 65 to 72.

Judging by the looks of bones 65, mine is the same. Maybe i misunderstood how much of a step is a step. I tried searching but finding pictures of the floors are not common.

The "step": Here's an easy way to remember which cab the truck has, or should have...
If the truck was built with front leaf springs the cab has the step.
If the truck was built with coils, it has no step.
This simple rule makes it easy to understand the construction of the '65-'66 models, especially the 4wd ones.
Is there an exception?

Pic from 1957/63 truck parts catalog: See numbers 16472/16506 for the deep cab step, visible when the doors are opened.

1961/64 all; 1965 F100/250 4WD; 1965/66 F350/1100; 1966 F250 4WD / All these trucks have front leaf springs.

1965/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD do not have this type of cab step. See pics in posts #3 & #4 for what the abbreviated cab step these trucks have...looks like).

All these trucks have coil spring front suspension.

Um... I think you are agreeing with me ND. Yes?

The pic you posted looks like a twin I beam style (ie: coil spring) type floor, see a pic below of a leaf spring (solid beam front axle) style door jamb

Your help is much appreciated. ND do you have any insight to the 1965 C2 axle code and the rhyme/reason about when a Dana 44 was used vs a 9 inch? This truck has a 44 on it.

C2: Spicer/Dana 44 Rear Axle / 3.73-1 / Limited Slip / 3,300 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

1959/67 F100: When Limited Slip was ordered, Ford usually installed the Spicer/Dana 44 rear axle, because the 9" with Limited Slip was not available in F100's until 1968.

However, Ford also offered the Dana 60.2 (1963/66 F100); Dana 60.3 (1966/67 F100) rear axles. Both have Limited Slip, were installed in lieu of the Dana 44 if ordered.

Not ND but a point of view... I have heard the D44 was used in place of the 9" because the housing - not necessarily the differential - was stronger.
