Has anyone ever done retrofits for these old trucks? Was wondering if it was even possible.

yes- add relays to go with them.

LEDs are a straight fit for them and as they draw less amps, might mitigate the need for relays (I would still like to do relays as well).
However, Truck-lite LEDs are about $160 or so per headlight.

I didn't know I'm in the process of building me a set for my 01 f150 thought I'd ask if anyone has ever attempted it for these old trucks.

It's very possible. High power Halogens, HIDs, LEDs, whatever.

$160 for a headlight?? What the hell is wrong with you people? ;)

i have a pretty nice set up in my truck. don't have much info on it seeing as how it was like that when i bought it. it has bright white/blue HIDS but when i hit the high beam pedal it goes bucket the old school yellow head lights.

Prolly running an hid setup I might buy a cheap set of headlights and mess around with them and see if I can't make something happen my only concern is a wiring harness lol.

I put these on my 73 4x4. I'm using the amber section as daytime running lights...I think they were $80 for the pair or something like that. The back of the headlight buckets needed to be clearance for the large rubber gasket. Low and high beams are powered through an LMC headlight relay harness.

Over in Fordification, member "69Ford" installed blackened LEDs on is bumpside.

I have been running one in my Harley for a few years. It was nearly $300 when I bought it but when you ride early morning and night in deer country they are a real advantage. Harley has some out nearing $600 per headlight.

Hella makes H4 conversion that are an improvement over halogens. I ran them on my Jeep wrangler, and they should be plug & play with no mods needed, unless they need clearance at the rear. About $80 for the pair. I'm planning on buying some for my 72.

Ever notice, it's the King's deer, no poaching, yadda yadda when it comes to hunting, but otherwise when one of "their" deer runs into your car and causes $2500 in damage, well, then you're on yer own. Funny, that.

Read somewhere there were what, 20,000+ auto deer incidents in Iowa. Last year. For a while those ****ing bumper mounted whistles were all the rage. Then somebody figured out, they don't work. Don't have anything against good headlights, just question the price. $600? That's nuts. They have too many zeros on that, somebody is cleaning up.

They'll probably never recommend this, because you know, it's all complicated and ****, but turning the headlights OFF for a few seconds at least, gives the deer a chance to get the hell out of the way, because they just get blinded and this is half the trouble. Good eatin', hell of a way to tag out though.

On the biker side of the world, we have tried out all of the better bulbs, HID options (higher energy draw, delayed startup), etc. etc. and currently the LED options are seen as the better option.
This is the one I use Truck Lite 7" Round LED Phase 7 Motorcycle Headlight | eBay. I believe it is "milspec" and off-roaders are drawn to it as well for its ruggedness.
