Part number

Any body know the part number for a stock turbo wheel for a 1999 7.3?

Whitey Ford 04-28-2016 08:12 AM

Early 99 or late 99? Van, pickup?

homertwo 04-28-2016 09:05 AM

I have a 2001 F550 with the 7.3
I heard or read somewhere that a wheel from a 99 7.3 was better than the wheel I have in mine. I don't think I need an expensive wicked wheel for my truck. It is a rollback tow truck. I would just like a little better performance.
Thanks

Then look into spturboost.com even stock an SPX wheel will wake your truck up. Contact kevin for any Q's.

The early turbo wheel IS the wheel that is referred to as the wicked wheel.

I think he meant the WW2

The wicked wheel 1st gen actually produces less peak boost, but if you are experiencing turbo surge or flutter, it cuts down on it quite a bit, but the compressor map on it puts a broader boost curve, more torque early which I think would help in the towing business.

:-hijacked This thread makes me wonder. SPX vs Wicked wheel? Same thing or different. If different which is better?

Rikster-7700 04-28-2016 06:28 PM

I believe the SPX is taller and lighter than a WW2, now whether or not that equates to better has yet to be substantiated. The guys that run either one seem very happy with them, that I do know lol

Otto396 04-28-2016 09:51 PM

Anyone have either? How do you like it?

I had the WW gen 1in my stocck turbo before I went with the 38R and ran it with the DP tuner. In the summers I would get a pretty good amount of turbo surge, especially when towing, so I opted for the gen 1 wheel, back before any of these other designs had come out. It cured my surge problem very well, and I ran it on another stock turbo when I got my 160/30's. I would routinely see 33-35PSI out of it with the bigger sticks and then the bearing in my turbo went bad from over driving it I suspect. It certainly was out of its desired RPM at that point. But on stock sticks, it was very good, I liked the added turbo whistle it had as well.

Good to know! Im going to be changing that out soon. Never had any turbo surge but would like to be pro active and maybe have a little more boost.

You will have a pound or two less peak boost if you go WW gen 1 but a broader map.
