Alright, after much debating with myself (which is always fun), along with much research, and an extensive tire inspection, I decided to bite the bullet and replace my 11 year old tires. It's very hard for me to throw away tires that still have 90% of there original tread left on them. Up until now I really hadn't worried about it that much as I rarely venture very far from home, but with the very first "Nor-Cal FTE West Coast Truckstock" coming up in June, I didn't want to play around with not only my wife's and I's safety but everyone else's on the road. Ok that said I know if there is no pic it did,t happen. So hear are some pics of those bad boys. The ugly guy sitting on the tire is me, sorry about scaring you like that.LOL:-X0A6 "Keep on Rocking On"

Jim,
It is not the ugly guy on the tire that scares me but the pornographic pose all spread eagle that has me concerned. :-hair

Hey Jimmy,
Good idea - I'm thinking about doing the same thing.
What kind/size tires did you get?

...Did you know the Goodrich Blimp is circling overheard as we play?"

"really?, where?"

"YOU'RE OUT!!!!"

"Yeah, Goodrich doesn't have a blimp."

That's where my mind went went I saw your tire pics.

I had the same issues with some tires on my boat trailer. 11 years old and looked like new. Stored inside most of the time and no cracks in side wall or anything.

We came back from the lake one afternoon to camp and were told there was a loud bang at our trailer. The never used spare had exploded.

I sold the boat not long after that and told the buyer about the tires. He said they look great and trailered it from Tucson to Sacramento. I told him again and he said I was crazy.

Two blew up before he even got out of AZ. It's hot here so I don't take chances with tires. It's hard to shell out the bucks for new tires when the old "look" fine. Good move on your part.

Tires

I had a guy here towing out an old truck and the tire subject came up because of the original tires on that old 1928 truck. He told me Tires today are only good for a few years. He went on to explain that tires have to be used in order for the rubber to stay flexible. I don't understand why tires today actually don't last long but I still have a Trailer from the 1940' with original tires on it and there are no cracks in them at all. It stands to reason that the formula' they use today are expertly put together for a tire to only last a few years. It' a throwaway society today and they want more sales from us. Pathetic isn't it!! I wonder if all tires are like that!!

The scary part is what you can see of the garage looks clean and organized! How the heck does that happen?
Good move on the tires - much better safe than sorry. Have fun at WCT.

Dave, I think you have been watching to much "My name is Kaitlin" or something, I can't stop laughing.

Ben, they are BF Goodrich Radial TA's P295/50R15 105s on the rear, and P205/60R15 90s on the front, they fit without tubs but I did need some wheels with backspacing in the rear (with my 9"). They are the same exact tires that I'm taking off. I like the look plus they wear and drive real good. Heah on the bright side, Ill have a matching spare, for emergencies. Drive safe my friends

Hmm... crap, think I need to change out the ones on my Mustang here then.

Time for burn outs. ^_^

Would Jim sitting that way on the tire be classified as tire porn for the gals?:-X21
Those tires look awesome. Takes me back into the past.

Tired porn !!! for Jim. Had a motor home once(thankfully no more) and the right front blew out going 70 thanks to safe steer pulled over like nothing happened. Long story short I was told that the weather cracks on the outside are ok since the weather/sun does not hit the inside. Ya right. Live and learn and no one hurt but me pride. Oh Ya cost a arm and leg as we were just starting a trip I don't mess with older tires anymore period.

After taking a good look at the sitting on the tire pic I must explain and apologize. I set the timer on the camera and then jumped into frame just as it went off. It looked ok as a thumbnail when I copied it, but not so much when it showed up full screen. Sorry:(

toby tough 04-23-2016 06:47 PM

Oh Jim, it ain't no thing. Just having a bit of fun with it. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Tedster9 04-23-2016 06:59 PM

The older tires get tough and lose their gription even if they don't grenade at speed on the highway. It's damn tough to ****can good treaded tires. But, they will be quieter and smoother and handle so much better and you won't have that anxiety. The old Bias-ply tires last a long time fwiw, Radials have trouble for some reason.

When we moved to MN I drove the Uhaul and the wife was in the car. Brand new generals on front and both took a dump. Sure don't make them like they used to.
