2011 Eco Performance after PCM update
 

Had my truck in for transmission service and the PCM was updated.
I've noticed the truck has a different personality altogether. To be completely fair, under normal operation the shifting is nice. But romping on it is hardly want it used to be. I'd previously describe an eco with 3.73 gears as excessive. After this update, I feel like I'm back driving my Honda vtec (happy to hang out in upper rpms, no torque feel until upper rpms).

Anyone else experience this? I'm glad the transmission is fixed but not very happy with how it drives now. Seems now the truck drops all its boost to anticipate the next shift and then takes forever to get it back. Going by the meter (via obdII) Im hitting a max of around 13 for boost, which in looking around sounds like the stock threshold. So I dont think its the turbos themselves.

Looking for any thoughts - change plugs- consider tuner (Im almost out of powertrain warranty), etc. Was just about to install my leveling struts and put bigger tires on it, but the way its driving, I wouldn't consider bigger/heavier tires now.

My plugs and boots were just replaced and the dealer took the liberty of updating my PCM per Ford's orders as they say. I don't feel any difference but it does seem to shift smoother. Mine has the 3.31's so it's not going to feel as snappy as yours.

The dealer stated to me that Ford wants this done as a preventative measure. What measure I asked and received no credible answer. We'll see but for now I'm happy.

OK, so I guess I just wasnt patient enough.
With 120 miles post-update, it seems to be back to normal.

It takes a small bit to relearn your driving habits. Mine was fixed last Thursday, I took it to work Fri, sat and made a 550 mile round trip on Sunday. I kicked the hell out of it all the way down to Fayetteville, NC and back. If there was a weak spot, i was determined to find it.

"Smooth" shifting is a terrible thing. You WANT to feel the shift, and it should be nice & short to minimize wear. A nice, short, firm "bump" (but not a BANG) is what you want...
