Spinning all 4 wheels off ground - AWD
 

I searched for this subject and found a little info but nothing conclusive. I want to know if all 4 wheels can be off the ground and spinning withOUT causing damage to the AWD system(or anything else). I read the Ford factory owners manual and there is no mention of this anywhere. I remember there being a fuse for the AWD system but don't know if (pulling) that will change anything.

I need to check a few areas of the drivetrain while running. If there is no feedback on this subject I'll eventually report back with the answer.

I've done this before, and it should be no problem. Just make sure the van is properly suspended. And remember to apply the brakes to fully stop the wheels before putting the gear shift back into PARK.

You can remove the AWD control module under the driver's seat to disable locking the center differential, but the front wheels will still try to spin with the 30/70 normal torque split.

Thanks for the info! Disabling the center diff is necessary? I need to get a listen to the front drivetrain components.

No, it's not necessary to pull the AWD controller to get all 4 wheels spinning in the air. It engages the lock at a fairly low speed, maybe less than 25 mph. If you let the wheels spin freely at idle, I think it can get to a pretty high speed, possibly causing the controller to disengage the lock.

I have done it. I wouldn't do it too fast.
