What model Lance is that? I just order a new F250 Super Duty CCSB 4x4 Lariat with the 6.2 gas engine and 4.30 rear end. I am intrigued by the slide in campers but most of the true 4 season campers are designed for duallys.

2014 Lance 865. It's a 4 season camper.

I debated between the 865 and the 825 at first but the 865 works out better for me in a few areas... The 855s has a slide, but you HAVE to extend it out every time you want to jump in and out of the camper... This is problematic for me or the wife if we want to use the bathroom or grab something quickly.... Especially if you want to get food/drinks etc and put them in the fridge... You have to push the button to extend the slide every time so you can get into the camper. Just not a thing I find convenient at all.

The 865 has a sink in the bathroom, the sink in the kitchen is deep and big (usable). I can sit on the toilet on either camper and do my business if I need to. I am 6' 220lbs. So I am not a small guy. The 865 has a pocket door that works WAY better than the funky 825 bathroom door.

The cabinets above the table also drop down and make a bunk for a small kid or extra storage.

It has a few un-neccessary items I didn't want but it came with it...
TV system, sound system with 3 separate zones... (Bed, Table Area, Outside).

I mainly bought it for my fishing trips, winter snowmobiling as well as being able to take the wife and baby out on the weekends when they wanted to go.

She may not be as pretty as the new rigs, but she still gets the job done. My 96 F150 Fontana edition with the little slide in.

I like this setup a lot. I've got an 89 truck that I'd like to add a slide in to, for coast fishing. I really wouldn't want to buy a new truck just for that.

I'd like to see more if anyone has them.

This is my "just sold" duty. She is a beauty F250 V10 unit. That arctic fox 990 was a handful for it at about 4000lb loaded. I now have an 08 F350 that I am getting "camper ready". Just got air bags and a rear sway bar added. Gotta get some custom front tie down points made because those traction bars on my 08 are in the way to mount up the units I have. I was a bit over the legal GVW with the 250 but should be ok with the 350.

Looks like a pretty heavy unit. Do you plan to use it off road at all or is it more for street driving?

Both. My off road adventures will be quite limited with this big camper though. I didn't mean to buy a camper this big but it was a deal I couldn't refuse!

I have been thinking about a slide in camper for some time as well. My buddy just bought an Arctic Fox 996 and had to put it on a 1 ton dually in order to be safe. My understanding is they understate the weights on their campers but are very high quality and well built. Even the smallest one, the 811 is too heavy for my new truck.
So, I started looking around at other brands and found two that I like. The Lance 865 and the Wolf Creek 850. Wolf Creek is the little brother to the Arctic Fox, made by the same company, Northwoods Mfg, and is also a 4 season camper.
I looked at the Lance this week but have not yet seen in person the Wolf Creek 850 but hope to soon.


I know 4x4pwr has the Lance 865 and has posted above his experiences with it but does anyone on here have the Wolf Creek 850?

You may want to check the Arctic Fox 865 out. They have been produced in limited runs until now. Starting with the 2017 models, they will be doing full production runs on them.

I checked out the specs on the 865 and the dry weight on that camper is 2641 pounds. I think after loaded up with water and gear etc. it would be well over the recommended weight the F250 Super Duty should carry.
I have never had a truck camper so I am not sure if I am missing something but am very leary of maxing out the truck's capability because my main reason for looking at them is so I can also tow my ATV's as well.


I really like the layout of the 865 though.

I was only a couple hundred pounds over my GVW with my F250 and my 3750lb arctic fox. My 250 was a longbox though and I guess they do have a higher GVW than the shortbox.
