Here is a copy of the 1954 Ford Truck full color catalog to see what I mean. What I mean is how wide is the vinyl fabric at the top of the seat back?

Are you doing your seat in that weave fabric as shown in the pictures?

When I import the first picture into paint I count 28 squares high along the far edge with the bolster occupying 8 of those squares (gridline.) That makes the bolster about 28.5% of the total height. In my book that's about a quarter of the total height. It's not scientific but I have had a couple beers to help guide me. If that doesn't work I'll have to blame somebody in St. Louis... :-)

I'd measure it top to bottom and divide by 4, but that's just me. The Amish I've been involved with are pretty sharp and may have a different idea.

Hey, Abe, take a look at the cutaway catalog picture of the seat. Look at the height of the vinyl band at the top of the seat back And then compare it to the height of the vinyl band across the front of the seat cushion. What do you see?

Yes, Last spring I bought the original NOS woven vinyl fabric in the herringbone pattern. I bought the red vinyl for the bolster and the sides from Mid Fifty.

Patiently awaiting pics of the new paint job. Mine was originally Meadow Green vs. the Tomato Soup Red it is now. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can return mine to its original hue. Once that happens I'm going to take a month or two and drive nothing but back roads and tour the south. So I really need a vicarious vision of how that's going to look! LOL

Update 3/13/16
I took the seat to the upholsterer last week. He said it should be done in two weeks. I decided to go with no bolster on the back and keep it as a Standard Cab seat. Here are some pics https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0c954f612a.jpg Here is the seat bottom fully painted https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...b02d2f4092.jpg Here is the seat back after I painted it. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...3ffe019fec.jpg My fenders, patched and painted. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f9d4dabd79.jpg Another shot of my rear fenders. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...47920bf105.jpg Three of my boards with the final coat of oil based paint to match the Meadow Green paint. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d2ee16c5cf.jpg Here are my seat runners drying after I painted them with argent paint. |
Looking good Abe! :-jammin

Update 3/21/16
Here are pics of the progress on my rebuild. I was at the body shop last week on Thursday. This is a pic of my truck with the base on. He probably has the clear on by now. I plan on going there tomorrow. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6f80392c43.jpg I got the final coat of paint on the bed boards on Friday. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0cacc3e09d.jpg Painted the bed bolts Meadow Green. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6cdf51c3d9.jpg |
Progress, you got to love it! We are envious.
|
Very nice, looking forward to the end result.
|
Hopefully, more pics tomorrow. I think he will have the bed ready for me to put the boards in this week.
