First go the summit racing.
Buy the Lesley plug removal tool..
They have it for $70.00 plus tax..
If you need it which you will, If not you better buy a lottery tickets ,go to the casino.
Because you a having a lucky day...
I ran four tank of gas with seafoam in it,Took it on a hour trip to clean out all the yuck in the heads.
Cracked the plugs just a little like a 1/8 of a turn filled up the plug holes with penetanting oil.
Let them soak all night..
The first one came out turning it back and forth with a 4" handle rachet not much torque with it..
I got 3 out in one piece...
5 broke and the tip stayed in the head.
Went to Summit Racing bought the tool,I got a loaner tool from one of the chain part's store.
It comes with these things you crazy glue in to pull out the porcelain..
What a joke!!!!
If you have weak or a bad coil it seems those are the ones that come a part.
When I got the tip of the plug out,The deposit's where soft to the point that they wiped clean very easy..
I don't consider my self a mechanic, They can be changed..
The Lesley tool is pretty fool poof..
WORKS GREAT!! JUST ALLOW A WEEKEND TO DO THE JOB....
It runs great now.
Does not sound like a diesel engine any more....

Yes I watched about two hours of the You tube videos of all the different ways to take the plugs out..
My honest opinion once the plugs turn free,Some say air wrench ,Some say a rachet...
It don't matter they are going to come apart, Don't FREAK out...
Or trade it off for a Toyota....
I have bought and owned FORD CAR'S AND TRUCKS EVERY SINCE I STARTED DRIVING..
40 YEARS...
I know it's the AMERICAN WAY build it cheap and sell it high...
Come on with what a new truck cost these days....
You owe the customer a better product then we are getting...
If you're engineer's worked on what they draw and design just once, Oh would you have a truck no one could beat....

Huh. The way you describe it, kinda sounds like changing plugs isn't a half hour on a lazy Sunday afternoon drinkin' a beer kind of thing anymore. Hm.

If you're willing to stick with a brand and stay intent on DIY repairs of any nature you're pretty much required to keep up with new and emerging technology, techniques and practices relating to that brand.

Changing plugs isn't difficult but its not like in was when distributor-type ignition systems with cast iron heads ruled the day. Driving two different 5.4 Modular Motor E250's each with well over 200K miles I'm adapted to this newer motor. This included buying new tools to do the job properly and without fuss-----its a wise move I'd suggest for anyone doing their own smaller repairs.

Quick question (maybe dumb question) but doesn't this relate to the 3v heads? Those are the ones with 2 piece spark plugs?

I've got a 2003 2v 5.4.......and clanging plugs was really no problem at all.....bout 45 minutes
