CAN BUS
does the 2005 f250 4x4 have CAN -BUS ?
|
Yup, it does. I think I got my terminology right to say the architecture is a Controller Area Network and it uses the CAN protocol for most of the data traffic on the bus, however its not exclusive. There are other protocols on the bus and a select few of the PID's can only be found by connecting with those.

There is a high speed can, low speed can and a acp network.
Most audio stuff runs the acp. However im not sure about the navi and wich of the 3 it runs on. So far as will it plug and play thats a loaded question. I belive some were coded to the vin there is also a question of what harness is in the dash. |
I installed a navigation from 09 Mountanier (Pioneer) and it works - now I would like to install the new version (Clarion) and it only show me a white screen for few seconds -
I call to Navrepair and he said that the new model need can bus signal to turn on . and they said the 05 doesn't have can bus . how to know ? |
The evtm will tell you.
Your truck does have hs can, just not for audio that runs on the acp network. |
There is not any CAN buss to the head unit in the 05 from what I can see by
looking at the diagram. The one thing you get is VSS and the analog control switches on the steering wheel. I'll attach the Diagrams in PDF format for you. |
Hey Sean, can you tell if the steering wheel controls were still analog in 2006? I bought a nice bluetooth phone interface but haven't installed it yet because it says on vehicles with can bus controls on the steering wheel an extra adapter is needed.
|
06~07 still analog.
I put in a aftermarket head unit and had to get the little box so that the wheel controls would work. I put the 06~07 PDF up for you. Have a look at page 130-3 in the PDF. |
Thanks Buddy! The install instructions for my device says it works with analog steering wheel controls, may "learn" some CAN bus vehicles (my truck wasn't on the list) and the additional adapter was required for the rest. I have the PIE adapter in there now for audio input so I should be good to go,,when I get my truck running correctly again.
Thanks for the print also, I wasn't looking foreward to getting back into those discs you sent and figuring out how to display the prints. The text and graphics for repairs work fine but whatever viewer the prints come up in wouldn't work for me. My apologies to the OP for the :-hijacked |
You know that so long at I have a tiny bit of time I can do it for
anyone that asks. The funny thing is the later ver of the manuals is easier to pull the PDFs from. The 03~04 I have to build them one page at a time. |
can I get bus signal from the cluster?
|
Look in post #17 at the PDF for (14-1 Module Communications Network)
If it on the main network there you can pick it up anywhere that network goes. So yes you can get CAN Bus at the cluster. But keep in mind that you have to terminate it correctly or your going to have problems. Correct termination can be a problem without knowing the needed permitters and what is already in the system. |
