what year truck could i get a drive shaft from that had an aod transmission that would fit my a 1984 f150 long bed? i currently have a C5 transmission in it now but i want to buy an AOD from Monster transmission but they say I'll need a longer driveshaft & they claim that they could get me a seal one for $500( i laughed at that). what should i do????????

You need to do some research, and I've attached tables which will assist you.

As you can see below, you can figure out what drive shaft part number you are looking for since you know the needed information, like engine, 2wd or 4wd, year, and axle ratio. Then give me the complete part # and I can tell you what trucks it came in.

Oh, I've assumed 2wd, but if yours is 4wd then let me know and I'll get you the right info for that.

OK! sounds good I'll get the wheel base and other information this weekend. what I'm gonna do is start getting my parts together now so that when i get the tranny I'll have everything ready to go.

If it is a long-bed the wheelbase is 133" But, confirm that by looking at the certification label on the driver's door jam. And, by the way, this tells how to decode the rest of the information on the certification label: Certification Label - Gary's Garagemahal. And, you'll need the axle ratio info that you can find via that decoder.

If they are a reputable shop they should be able to give you the specifications of what is required when using their product for any fitment. I'd be a little leary hearing: "We can get You a deal". Gives Me the Craigslist Willies...

i do understand guys but i'm looking at all my options. i might just stick with the C5 for a little while longer due to upgrades to the house but, the AOD will be added later in the future. i will keep looking for the right vender to get everything from.

I have questions after looking over that list Gary posted.
I see they list a few different size shafts for the same WB trucks, why is this?
Was this because of a change from 9" to 8.8 rear axles and would this happen with in the same year?


I would say if you cant get the list to work for you to find what will work find a local shop to make one for you and ask how they want you to measure it.
Most want the truck sitting on all 4 wheels, push the trany yoke in and pull it out 1" then measure from center of yoke ujoint to the center of the pinion yoke.
But again check with the shop how THEY want it measured.
