Howdy folks I'm new to the forum so if I am in the wrong spot just give me a kick and I am moving on ! LOL…

Seriously the reason I am here is the Kristi KT7 (Snow Cat) I am restoring has a 104 Cubic Inch V4 Industrial Engine with a Napa 1516 oil filter in it. I don't think thats correct. Am I right that there should be a Full Flow Oil Filter. What characteristic would I see in the oil pressure with the NAPA 1516 filter (I think thats a by pass filter)? Before I touched anything the oil pressure was at 10 PSI cold with the NAPA 1516 oil filter.

I have low oil pressure I think. I just replaced the original OPSU ( 806460032 194 2 ) with a VDO 701-1827 100PSI (made in India). I also replaced the OPSU electrical conductor from the unit to the oil pressure gauge (see attachment). At 2000 RPM the gauge reads 10 PSI and thats with the motor cold and warm.

Cold I think the PSI should be 50 PSI ~ Its an old motor 1970's I think theres no plate on the valve cover so Im not sure of the age. Engine sounds good idles well and isn't smoking. Tough to see inside the valve cover to look for oil flow. Any gear heads out there that might be interested in helping a novice out here.

being safe is 10lbs pressure per 1000 rpm on gas motors,is gauge electric or runs off pressure,seems like it should have more than 10 lbs,should go higher when oil is cold,??new filter??,bad gauge? seen some industrial engines with a regulator you can adjust pressure???,did you change the oil??,I would start with changing oil and filter first,

I also am suspicious of the oil gauge and sender. I would temporarily unscrew the oil pressure sender and plumb in a mechanical oil pressure gauge and see what readings it gave. You could even use a "branch tee" fitting and connect both units to compare them.

Even if you could see the oil flow under the valve cover it wouldn't tell you the oil pressure.
