loose rocker/bent pushrod
Kids truck fouled today!!
Looks like when we changed the valve seals a couple of the rockers worked loose. One of the pushrods were bent. It was a miracle it didn't fall into the bottom of the engine. My question is can I just replace this one pushrod? We would like to do a more extensive build but just not in the dead of winter. What size are the pushrods on a 351M. I think this spring a new Long block is in the works but we just need to get through Christmas Chris |
You can replace the one push rod and rocker if you want, but check the valve first. With those engines, it's common for the valves to stick which will bend the push rod and make the rocker seem loose. If the valve IS stuck, pull them both (the heads) and get the valve guides replaced. If one stuck, the others aren't far behind.

thanks, I am sure it is just we screwed up. There were 2 that the rocker bolts were hand tight. I am sure we just didn't get them torqued

So does anyone know just what length pushrods are on a 351M?? There are a whole bunch and I can't figure out which one we need. It is pretty hard to measure a bent onoe. I guess I could pull a different one out huh?

Yeah that would be easiest. Pull a like pushrod, IE: If its an intake, pull an intake, exhaust pull an exhaust. Cant go wrong that way.

351M/400 push-rod length is 9.500".

9.5 was perfect.
Got the new pushrod in today. Took about 20 minutes total and she runs like a champ!! Kids happy I'm happy!! Thanks everyone Chris |
