I heard that many people use fiberglass for car insulation. What sort of material it is? Is this material appropriate for car insulation? I decided to go deep into these questions.

Fiberglass proved it’s efficiency and is considered as one of the best insulators today. It is pretty cheap and popular among car enthusiasts. There are plenty advantages of this material. Mineral wool is used for thermal insulation of roofs, floors, walls and etc.

But there are some cons of using this material some people even don’t know about.

Myth №1: fiberglass is the best thermal insulator.
This is partially true if you are talking about house interior. Rockwool will work if it’s kept out of moisture,that means inside.Rockwool won’t work if it gets wet. Have you ever noticed condensation on your car metal surfaces like doors?If applied in your car rockwool starts to absorb moisture and destroy it’s body.

Myth №2: fiberglass is a safe material
Rockwool consists of mineral fibers held together with resins based on formaldehyde.The better the quality of rockwool the more harmful resins it has.With time resigns start to decompose, mineral fibers turn into dust and penetrate into car interior holes. They are really harmful for human health as they penetrate into the lungs and become the cause of many health problems.

Myth№3: Mineral wool is fireproof
Rockwool can be referred to non-combustible materials but the resigns ,which are the part of glue mixture, are susceptible to burning.They can emit poisonous substances into the air and you even don’t know about this.

Myth№4: Mineral wool is a cheap material to insulate your car
When applying mineral wool in the car you have to get a lot of material.In order to apply mineral wool you’ve got to use the whole sheet.You cannot cut it in pieces and apply them separately. Consequently, you will have a lot of leftovers after the application.

So what is the best alternative for mineral wool?
There are a lot of car insulation materials that are harmless and easy to use. And,what is most important
that they are adapted to changeable car environment which is constantly heated or cooled and can be humid as well.

The materials that also can be used instead of rockwool:
1) A foam that absorbs moisture but doesn’t evaporate it
2) Peno polyurethane that appears to be a bit more efficient in terms of vehicle deadening
