temp gauge problems no voltage at sending unit

I've read some treads on the temp gauge sending unit but I'm a little foggy on where to look for my problem. I just purchased a 2000 F250 7.3, temp gauge not working. It has a new sending unit. I read some threads about the voltage at the plug but I have no voltage on either side of the plug. The way I understand it red/white wire goes to the battery. Is there a fuse between them and which one is it? and if fuse is ok is there a cronic problem that someone might know of that I can look for? thanks!

Do you have a Automatic or Manual Transmission. The Connector #157 BK Wire is powered via a 5vRPCM M/T or 12vdc for A/T.

it's an automatic, so I should be getting 12v at plug, correct? which I'm not and I'm trying to figure out the best way to figure out why.

The power originates at the Cluster, travels through the Sensor (the sensor's resistance decrease as it heated) and the return voltage drives the gauge needle sweep.

I would think the issue is originating at the cluster or in the line from the cluster to the sensor. Perhaps and open over time has occurred?

Ok so my best bet is to start at the cluster and try to trace this thing back to the plug, sounds like fun. Thank you Thomas I'll let you know if I have any luck.

I wanted to send an update because I know I'm probably not the only one to run into this. I decided to start at the temp sensor so I went to Ford and purchased one. He sold me the 3F1Z-12A648-A. When I took old one off it looked like the new one so I installed it, put plug on, but did not fix the problem. I noticed the plug wasn't seated all the way down on the sensor so I pushed really hard and cracked the damn plug (pigtail). after looking at it, I could the grooves on the sensor and the grooves on the plug were not the same. Evidently the guy I purchased the truck from had the same trouble since the old sensor looked like the new one I purchased. So after some time on the phone with Ford dealer I purchased F65Z-10884-AA Temp Sender and the pigtail is the WPT-1325. These are the correct replacement parts. Good luck........

Temp gauge works fine now!
