Stancor 586-902 for winch application?

Hey guys,

I thought I would post this question in the 7.3 because I know a lot of you guys are familiar with the the Stancor 586-902 solenoids commonly used for the glow plugs. Trying to use what I already have, I have a brand new one sitting on the shelf that I never installed when I had my 7.3 before I sold it. I'm looking at installing a Champion 10,000 K winch on my new truck. The specks for the winch are,

Champion model #11006
Motor-Series Wound 3.6 HP / 2.7 kW, 12V DC
Duty cycle intermittent
Run time - 1 minute at 10K current @400 Amps. (Max.)

Stanco 586-902
Duty cycle- Continuous 200 amp / in rush 600.

Whats your guys opinion on using the Stancor?

Thanks for the help.

Brice

That depends on how much Amperage your winch is demanding. 200 Amps, probably not when you need it to recover your vehicle.

There are several which are designed with high-amperage continuous duty cycle and switching available.

You may require a 12 Volt Reversing Continuous Duty Solenoid Relay for your Winch Motor. Or, You could only require a Continuous Use - HEAVY DUTY 12v Marine Solenoid.

The Owners Manual under Specifications will list the Amperage Draw for the Motor based on it's Duty Cycle and Load. Use the Highest.

Just a note: If the one you have keeps burning up, you're probably needing to tear the Winch Motor apart and replace the Brushes and clean it up good.

Thanks for reply.

I was looking at the Albright reverse acting solenoids that are 100 amps. I ran across several post where people have been installing them with their Warn winches. I was thinking if the Albright was only a hundred amp then then Stancore at 200 should work fine but maybe I'm wrong.

Got it.

You're going to use it as a Switching Solenoid to turn the power on and off via a remote switch? Yes the Stancor will work.

I thought you were going to use them in the Control Box for the Winch's Hand Controls.

Is this correct?

Thomas,

Thats correct. I was just planning on using the Stancor for a power supply connected to my up fitter switch.
