AM/FM Radio Help
 

Hello,
I just bought a radio and before i try and hook it up I wanted to double check the wiring. The radio has tape listing what each wire is but I paid a pretty penny and just wanna check.
Radio is code: D8TF-19A241

orange/green strip = speaker (is this pos or neg)
white/green strip = speaker (pos or neg)

black/wht = negative (ground)
solid black = power

Of course I'm told the radio works great. It is VERY CLEAN and in very good shape.

I have a test bench and was gonna set it up as I have it listed but the two speaker wires have me a bit confused. I would have thought the radio would have had more then one speaker.

Most nervous is the solid black power and the black/wht as the ground. I would assume (some one can tell me if I'm right) but the mounting nut on the back is also a ground to the body.

So on my test bench I can run fused power to bulk and ground to both the nut and the blk/wht and just guess on the speakers to atlas get sound.
EDIT: I think I might need to connect the antenna as it might also act as a ground.... I do have am extra antenna male plug-in section but its cut off (that should work yes)

The OEM radio was powered by a GREEN 2-terminal pigtail. YELLOW with a BLACK stripe is switched power, BLUE with RED stripe is dash illumination. Do not mistake the BLUE with RED stripe wire for a ground. The OEM radio is grounded through its mounting chassis. The speakers were connected over a separate pigtail.
Ok I looked behind the glove box and found a connection the goes off the green and yellow. GREEN with YELLOW stripe wiring is hot-at-all-times power for the courtesy lamp circuit. Use that. There is a 3-connector pigtail behind the glove box (which also goes on to power thecigarette lighter).
It'snot the stock radio wire because the stock radio didn't need hot-at-all-times power (EXCEPT the factory digital AM radio for clock memory).
solid black—power
blue with red stripe--dial light
black with gray dashes—ground
orange with green dashes--right speaker
white with green dashes--left speaker
Assuming AM/FM stereo and stock wiring harness'.
Purple is ground, right speaker is white and left speaker is orange.

For OEM radio help, the guy to use is in Scottsbluff Nebraska. His name is Gene Cochran, and he works out of his house. He's a crusty old codger, but does some tremendous work. While he had the radio apart, he updated some of the internals and cleaned the heck out of everything. My total bill was $25!*His number is 308 632-2520 (I checked with him at the time I collected my stereo, and he was OK with giving his number out) He also lined me out on the manner in which the old radios were wired (mine at least). The speakers are in series meaning positive from radio to positive on speaker #1, negative from that speaker goes to positive on speaker #2. Negative from Speaker #2 goes to Negative on stereo. Now the stock stereo rocks as loud as the little 5 1/2 speakers can handle!!!*

I did try to power on using the solid black power and ground using the blk/strip and get no noise. I have the orange/green strip on the pos of the speaker and the wht/green strip on the neg.

I have a power probeIII and see there is continuity through the radio but no noise.

Could I have the speaker wired wrong?

The radio has no harness just bare wires. I have 12.7v at power and the speaker does work.

I don't want to start screaming to the guy I bought it from until I'm 110% sure its not me and my wiring. Thanks for the help:-banghead

How about the mounting nut in the back of the case.. does that need to be grounded as well?

And the antenna?? Currently I have NO ground on the nut but have grounded both black/white wire and nut together.

The antenna is just the male plug in to the radio and about a foot of cable but no mast and its not grounded to anything...

I would call Gene Cochran in Scottsbluff Nebraska. His number is 308 632-2520 and just ask how to safely bench test hook it up.
