Help.. 2002 E250 door issue

Hello, I'm trying to figure out what's preventing this passenger side (side) cargo door from closing. The two doors located behind the passenger door.. The (inner) door closes and opens with no issues but when you close and latch the outer door it will not close all the way. Now the door will latch and lock but it's like there is a 3/4 inch gap holding the door from closing. Almost like the weather stripping is too big.. But that does not appear to be the issue. Could it be something in the latch or the hinges ? Thanks

Is something blocking the latch from fully closing when you shut the door?

See if you can push the latch on the door all the way in with a screw driver while the door is open. If its like mine, there are 2 closed positions with the latch, 1/2 way and all the way closed. It sounds like your door is only hitting the first of the 2 latch positions.

pieces parts

The very first thing I would ask is, does it make a hard, metal-on-metal sound when it stops closing? Or is it a softer sound, like plastic or very soft sounding and feeling, like its hitting some rubber.

This will help you narrow it down.

Thanks for the advice guys ! It does not make a metal on metal noise it's a quite smooth close like all the other doors... And I have not tried the screwdriver I am in the process of buying this van so I was hoping to see what I was getting into repair wise. When I slam it or try to push it closed it still wouldn't close all the way.

Might just need an adjustment on the striker or latch.

This.

If your slamming it hard and it doesn't fully latch it sounds like one of the 2 things has moved.

I agree checking the lower latch catch, see if it has moved or been moved----if the latter ask why?

If the latch does engage and operates reliably, if the lower catch is in it's original position then time to look at the hinges on that door. They've been known to be blown open by the wind which can cause part of your issue. They could also just be wearing out.
