Dual Mass Flywheel
 

Can some one tell me what exactley the dual mass flywheel does?????? does it help isolate tranny noise?

It does not isolate the tranny noise. It's designed to absorb some vibration at take off in high torque applications or when you let off the pedal too quickly.

Really not something you'd want to mess with since they do fail at some point. The OBS trucks used to run them, but many switch over to a single mass flywheel when the time comes.
