A Few Interior Progress Pictures of the '56
At some point I'll sit down, gather all of my pictures, and create a "build thread" but until then...random progress pictures.:-jammin
Mechanically, I've got it almost on point so I worked on refining the interior a bit. There's a few facts that I cannot deny on myself; it's an old truck, I'm on a very tight budget, and I've got skills to DIY on almost anything with this truck, and I live in Florida. Anyone who's been in these trucks without any sort of interior knows it's basically sitting in a steel drum. I set out to quiet it down and deal with the heat some (hey it's Florida). I used the Frost King brand insulation and it worked great. Four rolls total should finish the inside, three rolls did the roof and floor, I still need to do the fire wall and cover. I removed the transmission mounted parking brake, repaired the rear axle mounted units in an effort to get a working brake (success!) and to simplify the floor for carpet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psrqscosoj.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pss8hpkesl.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psadewfetp.jpg My dad and I were talking about different headliner types through the years and how to make them. Compound curves of the roof and side panels. He suggested an abs liner, I said that it was a good option but not in my budget. He replied with "Happy Birthday" and told me to order it.:-X03 A trip to Mid Fifty's website and this arrived shortly after: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pswavhzhxm.jpg It took about an hour to install. In time I'll cover it but for now the textured ABS works. Here's a couple other pictures of where I'm at now. I'm pretty proud of how it's turning out for just a guy in a garage with a really tight budget, both the inside and outside of the truck. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps8ywcg2dc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps1bj0yu55.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psrnkofob9.jpg |
You should be pleased - that's some great work.

I run the same liner but wrapped mine in black suede. It wraps really well for the record - pic:

Both very nice! ZSK what did you use as a sill plate on the floor?
|
I run the ABS liner in my 56 as well. Only mine is a big back window. I painted mine with gray interior paint and it looks like the OEM board, I also made door panels from the same ABS material I got at an upholstery shop and velcroed them to the doors so as not to drill holes for clips. Looks factory inside.

The sill plate is just aluminum angle painted black. That is a 1" width and it's too narrow, I'm going to replace it with 1 1/2" to help hold the edges a little better.

I really like that look

Nice ZSK.
I wrapped mine in Dynamat (FYI) Talk about quiteness! Worlds of difference. Wife and I can actually carry a conversation in the truck now (if I turn down the music!) And for the sill plate in mine, I stumbled across a few pieces of aluminium carpet hold downs thingymajingies at the local ACE hardware store that happen to fit nearly perfect. Everyone thinks it came there back in 1956 (everyone who doesn't know) Truck is looking nice ZSK. Good job. Paul |
