1997 E-350 A/C compressor

I need to get a new compressor for the a/c in my 1997 E-350. What is the best one to buy?

Go to rock auto and get a MotorCraft compressor, they are usually under $200 while they are almost $600 from Ford.

For under $200 the MotorCraft would be a great deal.

If budget permits think of replacing the line set too---both Dorman and Four Seasons make nice replacement assemblies.

In fact given your year chassis and assuming the A/C system is all original I'd strongly recommend replacing everything but the evaporator and condenser coils. Serpentine belt & tensioner, accumulator/dryer, Schrader valves, service port closure caps (plastic) along with the compressor and line set---you'd have a nearly new complete A/C system.

Sounds like a lot at first but if you need or require A/C the difference a few new parts makes is pretty much worth the time and expense. On my 2000 E250 with 275K miles the new system produces 38* leaving air temps even on 90+ plus midwest humid days.

Thanks for the advice! Motorcraft for the compressor, and I will replace the accumulator/dryer, Schrader valves, service port closure caps (plastic) along with the compressor and line set. Good advice!
Thanks!
