shifting issue?

Hey guys,

Used to own a F250 so I am new to the F150. I am currently in a 2014 F150 fx4 with about 10k miles on it. I noticed when the truck is shifting into 3rd (normal acceleration)the rpms once in third remain around 1800 then drop to 1400ish after about 2 seconds or so while still in third (almost like its shifting again). Does anyone else have this experience or know what it is?

Torque converter lockup

Mine does the same thing. It's the converter locking up.

Edit: Mike got me by a minute

thanks gentlemen for the responses, was my guess but was not very familiar with these trucks yet.

A tune will stop that, at least it did for me.

Yea, the posts above are right; its the torque converter. The only gears i don't notice it lock up is 1 or 2. 1 and 2 may be too low, or I just can't tell. With the 5.0 I can tell when it locks up by the exhaust note and the slight rpm shift.

tow/haul will also keep it from locking in 3rd.

in all honesty, it is something you can get used to. much like the other "oddness" that the extra 2 gears brings.
